Could we already be handling our own fate in labs spead across the U.S.? Is the Bioterrorism Threat at our doorsteps?

There are now 20,000 people at 400 sites around the US working with putative bioweapons, 10 times more than before the terrorist attacks of 9/11.

Here are some examples of incidents that have occured in the last 5 years that labraotories and the government didnt want you to hear about!

• At the University of New Mexico, one worker was jabbed with an anthrax-laden needle, and another with a syringe containing an undisclosed, genetically engineered microbe.

• At the Medical University of Ohio, workers were exposed to and infected with Valley Fever.

• At the University of Chicago, there was another puncture with an undisclosed agent normally requiring heavy containment, probably anthrax or plague.

• At the University of California at Berkeley, workers handled deadly Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever, which spreads in the air, without containment when it was mislabelled as harmless.

• At the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and at Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York City, TB escaped containment after equipment failed.

• Three researchers at the Boston University Medical Center fell ill in 2004 after being exposed to a potentially deadly bacterium in a Level 2 biosecurity lab.

At the University of California at Berkeley, workers handled deadly Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever, which spreads in the air, without containment when it was mislabelled as harmless.

Ballocks. Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever is spread by the bite of a tick. It is not, and never has been, airborne. It is a blood-borne pathogen which must be injected directly into the bloodstream (ie by tick bite, the only known natural means of transmission) and cannot survive outside of a host body for long.

How do I know? Spotted Fever survivor, right here. Spotted Fever can be bad news for small children and those with suppressed immune systems. Adults, however, typically recover within a week with Tetrocycline treatment. The truly bad news is that Viral Meningitis tends to "piggyback" on the same species of tick, and is -much- harder to treat. How do I know? Survived that too; at the same time. Rocky Mountain spotted fever is caused by Rickettsia rickettsii, a specialized bacteria. Ticks infected with the organism transmit the disease to humans.

People get Rocky Mountain spotted fever from the bite of an infected tick or by contamination of the skin with the contents of an attached tick when it is removed from the skin. Rocky Mountain spotted fever is not spread from person to person, except rarely by blood transfusion.

Rickettsiae are transmitted to a vertebrate host through saliva while a tick is feeding. It usually takes several hours of attachment and feeding before the rickettsiae are transmitted to the host.
