9/11 Commission says it Best ==> Secure our Borders and Ports!

Forget the red-tape. Forget the illegals for a minute. Work on the 2 most pressing home land security needs: (1) Securing the Ports and (2) Securing the Borders. Everyone agrees that something drastic needs to be done, but Congress and the White House are to business showing eachother up and fighting over other things, rather than accomplish the important things.

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Al Qaeda is gaining strength and the United States is still not as safe as it should be, former Indiana congressman Tim Roemer said Saturday. 9/11 panel member Tim Roemer talks about the state of U.S. diplomacy and anti-terror measures in 2005. Speaking about a week after failed bombing attacks in Britain, the 9/11 commission member chided Congress and the White House for not taking enough action to secure the country from another attack. Roemer urged lawmakers to move forward on adopting safety measures the commission suggested and asked President Bush not to threaten to veto the proposed legislation. "Only half of these bipartisan recommendations have been passed," Roemer said during the weekly Democratic radio address. "The White House's execution and funding of them has received failing grades." He identified border security as one of the most critical issues for protecting the country. "We still do not have the ability to know fully who and what is crossing our borders and sailing into our ports," he said. "We've left the door open to attacks."

We don't need more laws, simply to limit our lawmakers to enforcing and upholding the laws we already have.

Any what everyone forgets is the ports. This is our most vulnerable points. I remember reading that only single digits percent of the barriers that come to our shores are inspected. That is unacceptable and dangerous!

It is only unacceptable and dangerous because we trade with nations that are hostile towards us, our ideology, our citizens and our concept of individual rights.

There are lobbyists in Washington buying "representative" loyalty for places like Turkmenistan for cripes sake, so I think securing our government from corruption is necessary before we have a prayer in getting the "representatives" to actually represent our intrests, like securing the borders and ports.

I agree, we aren't safe, and certainly have a lot more to worry about than terrorists as we imagine them, in the images provided by Bush and Cheney.
