obviously someone can learn a lot on their own.. but to do that requires exceptional discipline. to be able to be "wise" having no structured education usually means that you must be intellectually gifted to begin with.

most people have to be trained how to think. hell, even plato felt that people didn't naturally know how to think, they had to go through rigorous education in order to be able to make sound arguments.

hope for america...

Which party takes more studying and knowledge of? I guess I feel its harder to be a Republican seeing how they do not come up with conspiracy theories (ie Micheal Moore.) Or do they?
You kidding? If you want Republican conspiracies, just look at the first 6 years of Bill Clinton's presidency.

I have never seen a republican poster do this, I countlessly see Liberals doing it which is why I made this topic.
Really? It strikes me that it's the conservative side that tends to simply cut & paste long screeds without their own analysis.

Or maybe it's the Conspiratorians. I guess we all see what we want to see.

I feel the defense of today's parties REQUIRES a weak mind! Republicans and Democrats are BOTH sometimes right, and often actually agree with each other. However, both parties are too full of other garbage from the fringes of each to make a solid, fact-based defense a near impossibility. What is required is an extreme hatred of the "other side" and a willingness to overlook the mistakes and lies of their own party in favor of talking yourself into believing the "party line".

Not a day goes by that I don't see something that reinforces my belief that people are idiots.

To be honest, rez, I've been debating on forums like this for about 10 years (I think about 6 different sites all together) and I have never once thought of any of them as being either liberal or conservative. Nor would I want them to be. (well, I did visit the Freeper forum {Free Republic} briefly, but they weren't very interested in opposing points of view)

I'm here to meet people of varied points of view and I'm not interested in ganging up on conservatives or having them gang up on me. What would be the point?

Can anyone tell me whether Volconvo is a conservative or liberal site? I've never thought about it one way or another.

I would like to get my healthy dosage of both sides to see where I end up.
