Hillary Clinton Attacks GOP Presidential Candidate....

Clinton slams GOP rival's Cuba remark - Yahoo! News

Above is the article, heres an excerpt.

Quote:
"I was appalled when one of the people running for or about to run for the Republican nomination talked about Cuban refugees as potential terrorists," Clinton told Hispanic elected officials. "Apparently he doesn't have a lot of experience in Florida or anywhere else, and doesn't know a lot of Cuban-Americans."

Thompson, who is polling strongly among GOP primary voters and is expected to join the race soon, made the comment at a campaign stop Wednesday in South Carolina.

The actor and former Tennessee senator was criticizing an immigration bill in the Senate, contending it would make the country more vulnerable to terrorism.

I think this is a strange move, and one that worries me. First off you have Hillary whos breaking away from trying to defeat her party, and attacking Fred Thompson?

Why him?

I think its because attacking him makes him look more like a contender, and if he ends up as the republican parties nomination the Dems are more likely to win than if someone like Guilianni, or Romney were to be nominated.

Fred Thompson is probably one of the worst choices for president, I cant even believe he's being considered as a viable candidate. A lazy actor.

and hes already got tons of bushies lickin their lips at the though of having another pawn in the white house...

but whats worse, him or hillary?

A smart poltical move by a smart woman.

However none of the Rubpican canadates have anything worth offering Amreica and they know it and so they bring up Fred Thompson - a new face on the horizon.

Where as Mrs Clinton has something to offer - intelligence.

Guilianni is now a has-been in the public eye, not something new representing change. Guilianni goofed up his own marrage, goofed up the clean up operations at the World Trade Center and so lots of people now have cancer due to the dust problem there. And he attacked aritists for religious reasons. So why let him goof up America anymore then what his friend Bush has done already?

People do not have to worry about which canadate is worse because there is nothing "worse" about Hilliary to be concidered.

I think her comment was a political move directed more at the GOP in general than at Thompson in particular. Many of Bush's policies have not been popular in the Cuban-American community of Florida, and it appears that their decades long support of the GOP may be eroding somewhat.

The challenge for the Democrats is to transfer this dissatisfaction with Bush to the Republican candidates who are vying to replace him, and this is what Hillary is trying to do with her comments here.
Realistically, of course, she probably won't be able to convince enough Cuban-Americans to vote Democratic to make a difference. But she will force the Republicans to spend money campaigning to that segment of the population, which will keep the GOP on the defensive. Their is only a finite amount of money for them to spend, so the more they have to spend protecting their base, the better is for the Democrats, whose base is energized and not in play politically. In terms of political strategy, I think it is a shrewd move.
