Bush upstages Al Gore on Global Warming.

Following the Al Gore movie President Bush is goint to take part in two big get-togethers with other major industrial countries to deal with what he terms "weather changes" ... aka Global Warming.

Bush unveils climate strategy ahead of G8 - Yahoo! News

He wants to make sure that he (Republicans) make all the deals before Democrats can get around to doing it (after next election).

He will release or trade technology that can be used to reduce polution. Not sure what all that would cover?

However he will fight to prevent any sort of international agreements about reducing polution caused by gasoline fumes. He is opposed to standards of how much "smog" can be allowed to exist relative to oil related polution.

He has changed his mind and will allow for a timetable for countries to conform to the new Republican plan - the date set would be 2008.

The white house is calling it a "long range plan".

Whatcha' Think?

At first I'd say I don't care who gets the credit, as long as we start looking at solutions to the problem, but it looks like Bush is trying to get everyone else to worry about it, while he gives tax breaks to SUV buyers.

What I am more wondering is how Rush Limbaugh and the dittoheads will be able to spin this. How is Rush going to keep saying climate change is BS while kissing Bush's ass full time like he does all the time?

This will be interesting.

Bush I think, is worried about his legacy now and trying to boost his poll numbers, not impressed. He's generally pretty good about sticking to his guns, but why flip flop on this?

Einstein's "Theory of Relativity" is still being challenged to this day, but by consensus Global Warming is a fact... that's REAL science at work, why didn't Albert just go that route?

And here is something I find even more ironic. Bush's house in Crawford Texas is extremely energy efficient. A relatively small house that uses ground loop heating and water recycling technology. Certainly not the kind of house you would come to expect from an anti-environmental leader.

Gore OTOH lives in a 10,000 sq ft. Tennessee house sqandering energy like its going out of style.

Its a pretty wierd world out there.

I don't care about who gets the credit, either, I just want something to be done. I do find it ironic that one of the major arguments against Kerry was him being a 'flip-flopper', yet Bush recently admitted that the war in Iraq has gone to hell after having stated so many times that things were going extremely well (Mission Accomplished, anyone?), and now he's doing a 180 from claiming there was no problem to admitting that global warming is real and something needs to be done.
At least Bush admitting that global warming is real will reduce some of the denial by people, mostly republican, that shun the idea of global warming existing at all. It's just a shame that these same people will probably give credit to an administration that has done immense damage to the ecosystem and overturned a number of laws oriented towards actually protecting us from global warming.

It is a pretty weird world out there.

I was reading stuff earlier today..in scotland in 2005 the g8+5 met (US UK Russia France Germany Japan India China Mexico Brazil Italy South Africa Canada) and discussed global warming..they came up with a consensus statement for a post 2012 climate change settlement..

climate change isnt going to be the main topic at g8 this year.. they had special guests of china mexico brazil and south africa 2 years ago for a reason... those countries included with the normal g8 members are the largest contributors to green house gases.. anything beyond now.. is probably hot hair.. to boost egos and improve approval ratings lol
