McCain sings "Bomb Iran"

It might be funny when my right-wing uncle does it, but when a presidential candidate does it, it makes me nervous:

YouTube - Bomb bomb bomb, bomb bomb Iran

I like McCain, but this joking(??) showed an insensitivity to the Iranian people and should be treated as a threat to Iran......Oh yeah, and Death to America.

Overall not the wisest move for a presidential candidate.

of course, the iranians have been chanting death to america for decades and not much of anything has come of it.. on the other hand, we have definitely dropped quite a few bombs on quite a few countries during the same stretch of time.

pretty damn stupid mr. mccain... i wonder how much the republican base will eat this sort of warmongering rhetoric up though - since the base still seems to have plenty of appetite for this endless occupation of iraq. and on that note, i need not remind anyone about mccain's delusions about strolling down the streets of baghdad without body armor..

his response to the other peoples' view of his idiotic acts/comments were almost as bad as the comments themselves.

John McCain: 'Bomb Iran, get a life' - Pravda.Ru

Quote:
Republican presidential contender Sen. John McCain has a message for any critics who thought his musical joke about bombing Iran was not funny: Get a life.

While campaigning for the 2008 elections in South Carolina on Wednesday, McCain responded to a question about how to deal with Iran by breaking into the melody of the Beach Boys song "Barbara Ann" but changing the lyrics to "Bomb Iran."

"That old, eh, that old Beach Boys song, 'Bomb Iran,"' McCain joked and then added: "Bomb, bomb, bomb, bomb ... anyway, ah ..." The audience responded with laughter.

The Republican from Arizona was asked for his reaction to any negative response to the joke when he arrived in Las Vegas for a fundraiser Thursday night.

"Please, I was talking to some of my old veterans friends," he told reporters. "My response is, Lighten up and get a life."

hope for america...

Get a life, indeed.

McCain doesn't seem to understand that EVERYTHING is a big deal when you're president. No president would ever get away with a joke like this. If he wants to be president, he should act like it.

It's not just Presidents who should be diplomatic in their language. ALL high-level Federal officials need to be aware of the media's presence and the tendency for jokes to be misconstrued. Even worse if there is an element of truth.

This was irresponsible. The US has thousands of nuclear weapons and has been threatening Iran in various ways for many months now. McCain voicing a predilection to bomb is supposed to create a Persian willingness to negotiate exactly how? Or is this militarist scion of a military family unconcerned with peace and only approving of war?

Exactly. If he thinks we should take this as a joke - that's one thing. But if he expects Iran to, that's a whole other ballgame.

What an imbecile. He knows Iran will see this. How can he expect to be able to sit down with Iranian leaders as president in future negotiations after this careless blunder?

This alone is a reason not to vote for the guy. A successful Iran strategy is critical to our future success in Iraq and global security.

Heh, now MoveOn's getting involved:

Liberal U.S. group launches ad criticizing McCain for 'Bomb Iran' joke - International Herald Tribune

Wonder if this would be considered a campaign contribution if the primaries were already decided?

This election's gonna be dirty, and I'm gonna love it.

And he said that "Bomb Iran" was an old Beachboys song, I am not so sure about that. As I recall my Dr Demento days some other group sang that song (although they sounded a little bit like the Beachboys), but I might be wrong as I am not a big fan of the Beachboys.

Are not the Beachboys an All American band? They should sue him if McCain gave out miss-information. But I guess Repubicans are allowed to give out miss-information for free.

In the news story McCain attempted to get comical in order to avoid answering the question asked, and he never did come right out and say that we should bomb Iran, or that we should not. He did the famous poltical side step, which could become a new dance fad when you dance to the tune Bomb Iran.

Now here is a link so you can listen to the song mentioned in the news clip.

Bomb Iran - Google Video

And here are some words for another song that I wrote for this speical occation, which can be sang to Bob Dylans tune called "Rainy Day Woman"

"They will bomb you if you live in Afganistan, they will bomb you if your live in Irag, they will bomb you if you live in Iran.

But I would not feel so all alone, if first everybody got bombed.

Bombed on beer, bombed on beer, yeah yeah yeah

They will bomb you if you are driving in your car
They will bomb you if you play your guitar,
But I would not feel so all alone, if first we all got bombed (out of our heads).

Yeeeha.

Interesting how his jokes are usually gaffes. He should stop telling jokes.

agreed, he's a better war monger than a comedian..

once upon a time, mccain was a clear favorite. this and his recent "everything's fine and dandy in iraq" comments served him some serious setbacks - which is very good imo, because he's a proponent of endless occupation and escalation..

It cut him off before he actually went into his point. He said that it should be a last resort, but we can't let Tehran get a nuke!

Either way this doesn't really effect McCain! His alienation of the wacko conservatives and his stance of military escalation in Iraq has sunk him.\

But McCain has been saying dumb stuff for years.

How about this one: "Why is Chelse Clinton so ugly? Because her mom is Janet Reno." Stupid and insensitive, but at least this one was funny.
