LA PD sued over illegal immagration policy

Quote:
LOS ANGELES (AP) - Illegal immigration opponents have sued the Los Angeles Police Department, taking aim at its long-standing policy of ignoring most suspects' immigration status.

The lawsuit filed Wednesday in Superior Court seeks to force officers to inform federal immigration officials when illegal immigrants are arrested on drug charges.

The department prohibits officers from inquiring about the immigration status of suspects, a policy strongly supported by Police Chief William Bratton and Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa.

The lawsuit was brought on behalf of unidentified police officers who are afraid to speak out but argue the policy creates a situation where the same illegal immigrants are repeatedly arrested when they could have been deported, lawyer David Klehm said.

About damn time, I hope they force the LA PD to do their JOBS and not cowtow to the PC "Racism" police.

This whole situation merely points to the failure of the Federal Government to enforce immigration laws that are already on the books. I blame the Bush Adminstration for not having the DOJ enforcement of the current laws. I blame the Congress for not enacting tougher penalties against those who sneak into this country and for those who remain here beyond their legal visas. I blame Congress for not easing the means for legal immigration so people don't feel they have to sneak into the country. I blame Congress for not adding to the border security to stop the hemmorage along the Southwest borders. And I blame local law enforcement for not prosecuting illegals when they find them. One thing for sure, there is a boatload of blame to spread around on this one.

I blame Congress for not protecting Law Enforcement from stupid lawsuits.
