Did American Samoa get a free pass?

GOP hits Pelosi's 'hypocrisy' on wage bill - Nation/Politics - The Washington Times, America's Newspaper

Quote:
On Wednesday, the House voted to raise the minimum wage from $5.15 to $7.25 per hour.
The bill also extends for the first time the federal minimum wage to the U.S. territory of the Northern Mariana Islands. However, it exempts American Samoa, another Pacific island territory that would become the only U.S. territory not subject to federal minimum-wage laws.
One of the biggest opponents of the federal minimum wage in Samoa is StarKist Tuna, which owns one of the two packing plants that together employ more than 5,000 Samoans, or nearly 75 percent of the island's work force. StarKist's parent company, Del Monte Corp., has headquarters in San Francisco, which is represented by Mrs. Pelosi. The other plant belongs to California-based Chicken of the Sea.
Nancy Pelosi is NOT on record for taking any money from Del Monte but do you think Samoa got a free pass because Del Monte headquarters are in San Fransisco and StarKist is also based in California? Is this merely an oversight, a political partisian attack, or could there be more than meets the eye here? Should Samoa have been included in the minimum wage bill as were all other American territories?

So, let's hear from all of you proponents of the minimum wage increase. Are you not outraged the workers in America Samoa have been ignored by Congress?

Thanks Os. It is merely business as usual down there in Foggy Bottom. All those people who are proponents of the minimum wage seem strangely silent about this event. I am not even indicting Pelosi, although it looks bad for her and the California delegation to Congress, but I am merely pointing out the duplicitous nature of everyone who champions the minimum wage. It seems that the minimum wage is good for some but not for others. If not for what seems the obvious, then why? Damn hypocrites, the entire lot of these legislators and those who support them .

I agree, and I figured that was the reason you brought it up, but I did want to take a poke at Pelosi.

Hypocrisy takes on a new meaning under the theory of "to each according to his needs", which we know this is all about in "their" eyes.

I think Neuspeak defines "hypocrite" as "great patriot".

I think the more important issue is all of those people here, and in the US, who champion minimum wage as the great hope for the underclass, are all strangely silent on this issue. I recall here on Volconvo, a great firestorm of support for the minimum wage by many members. However, when it comes to holding the Democrats, and Pelosi's leadership, accountable for applying the minimum wage in a fair and equitable manner, apparently we have no stomach for it. My, my, why am I not surprised at such muted non reaction here on Volconvo. Present company excluded, OS.

Crow can be such bitter medicine but add a dose of hypocricy, it will surely gag us all.

Agreed.

Still silence speaking louder than words....

I think it should be clear to all that fair play demands that Ms. P step down as Speaker, given that no Rep ever found guilty of such obvious corruption has survived with their office intact.

If the sauce is good for the goose, it should certainly suffice for the gander, n'est pas?

carry on.

Why do I not trust the left?

Could it be that familiarity has reared the distasteful expectation sired by past offense?

I can't believe you can even type those words considering the seated administrations TREASON to this nation, and lack of justice being done, or demanded.
