In regards to foreign policy, our ability to keep our noses in others' business while at the same time managing to have our heads stuck so far up our collective ass is rather remarkable.

To conclude, 9/11 was collateral damage in a civil war within the world of political Islam. On one side there are those, like Bin Laden, who want to install Taliban-style theocracies from Indonesia to Morocco. On the other side there is a silent majority of Muslims who are prepared to deal with the west, who do not see the Taliban as a workable model for modern Islamic states, and who reject violence. Bin Laden adopted a war against "the far enemy" in order to hasten the demise of the "near enemy" regimes in the middle east. And he used 9/11 to advance that cause. That effort has, so far, largely failed.

Yet Bin Laden and his attacks on the US have shaped an ideological movement that will outlive him. Binladenism has drawn tremendous energy from the war in Iraq, and will probably gain further adherents from the conflict in Lebanon. Egyptian leader Hosni Mubarak was prescient when he warned in 2003 that the Iraq war would spawn "100 new Bin Ladens." It is that new generation of militants that is Bin Laden's legacy.
Western civilization should be on its knees and bow down to Islamic nations ?
Western world needs the oil, and it is not going to beg for that vital resource. No one is going to go back into canvas in order to live peacefully. Since Islam-driven nations have created not much so far (if anything at all), Western world has no perspectives to survive.
Peace for the price of regress ? A sort of invitation to caves ?

Exception : Western civilization develops new source for energy.
If "yes", then Islamic nations would face their own doom, since those guys have nothing to offer in return.

Many supported the war at first. Bush talked about WMD. There is no fault in that.

A lot of people didn't know the story and were susceptible to the fear mongering. You're right, there's not necessarily anything wrong with them. They were lied to.

Well, that may be. Not everyone has an IQ of 140. and most people in the southern states have an IQ of BURGER KING OF TEH BRITANY SPEARS

After 9/11 can anyone have an excuse of ignorance? of being lied to? of "not knowing" ?
Just looking at these forums for example, people still think iraq war was a good idea, that iraq had WMD, that al qaeda was in iraq, that we can still win.
They have all the information available to them, to show them quite clearly that all of that is false, yet they still insist on parroting things they hear on TV.
Yourself included

Unless they voted for Bush the SECOND time, in which case, will you join me in having them sent to the gallows!?

Sure, Bush talked about WMD. Of course, Bush lied about the whole thing and it's come back to bite him. The only reason anyone supported the war in Iraq was because he kept claiming links between Saddam and Al Qaeda. Because they were out and out lies and Bush really hasn't got a rational clue in his head about how to handle Iraq, most people are just fed up.

Anyone blame them?

Jesus loves me? No thanks, I don't swing that way.
