Question for American White Voters?

Obama considers presidential run - CNN.com

Would you vote for Senator Obama for President, as he is obviously not a caucasian?

Obama is a considering a run at the white house. I know from living here in Illinois this guy would be a perfect choice. As a white man I would vote for him.

However, I think it is still too early for White America to vote for a Black President.

It would depend upon his platform. Skin color does not matter to me.

Then again, I probably will not vote in the 2008 election.

Pray tell, GHook, please tell us why this man is the "perfect" choice for the White House in 2008.

You still haven't told us why.

Perhaps he is less odious than some of the alternatives?

I think race will be less of an issue. We have already seen that black officials can serve in high office and be as dishonest and double dealing as their melanin-challenged collegues. The Colin and Condi show has proven that much.

I am not going to go into why vote for him. That is not the point. The question is do you think America is ready to vote a highly qualified black man in the Presidency.

I'd support Barrak Obama in a heart beat.
I think a more telling question for white voters would be, will you support a known white racist like George Allen?

I would never vote for him.

But not because he's black. I would never vote for him because he's a statist.

"Speaking before the National Press Club in April 2005, Obama defended the New Deal social welfare policies of Franklin D. Roosevelt, associating Republican proposals to establish private accounts for Social Security with Social Darwinist thinking."

"In May 2006, Obama campaigned to maintain a $0.54 per gallon tariff on imported ethanol. Obama justified the tariff by joining Senator Durbin in stating that "ethanol imports are neither necessary nor a practical response to current gasoline prices," arguing instead that domestic ethanol production is sufficient and expanding."

Source: Barack Obama - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

"He led a fight to ban the dietary supplement ephedra, and after the collapse of a Chicago porch killed thirteen people, he voiced support for stricter building codes.

Source: The Natural

"In the Illinois State Senate he supported increased funding for healthcare and education and wrote bills to publicly finance judicial campaigns and create a state earned-income tax credit."

"And he was particularly outspoken after Hurricane Katrina, leading the charge among lawmakers demanding answers about the government's failure to protect New Orleans."

"He went on to tell me about his support for other structural changes such as public financing of elections, forcing broadcasters to offer free airtime for candidates, adding strong labor protections to trade pacts and major efforts to create a more just tax system."

Mr. Obama Goes to Washington

"As a member of the Senate's Medicaid Working Group, Senator Obama will continue the fight to strengthen Medicaid, as well as help providers who care for large numbers of poor and uninsured patients."

"Barack Obama's first bill as a U.S. Senator was the HOPE Act (Higher Education Opportunity Through Pell Grant Expansion Act) (S.697), which would help make college more affordable for many Americans. The bill would increase the maximum Pell Grant from the current limit of $4,050 to a new maximum of $5,100."

Not the man I want in the White House.

Americans are certainly receptive to a Black President, but it "ain't Obama."

Besides, Clinton claimed he was the first Black President, anyway.

And speaking of Clintons, Hillary wouldn't stand for Obama running against her in the Primary. She would destroy him in underbear's "heartbeat." And that would be very interesting to see indeed. ie, a Primary involving a all out fight between Obama and Clinton to win the Party's choice to represent them as the Presidential candidate for 2008. I would pay to see that one.

Considering test polls showed Colin Powell could have won the Presidency in 2000 or 2004, I think the question has already been answered.

Everything that Mogan considers as a point against, I call a point for. I would vote for him for all the same reasons Mogan would not. Statist, schmatist! We do not live in the jungle where only the strongest survive. We are humans who can treat each other with respect and compassion and can use intitutions to do more than advance the power of the few. He has not said one thing that I am aware of that would make me not want to vote for him.

Getting Americans off their oil addiction, increasing Pell grants, and getting sleazy 501K money out of elections..........yeah those would stop me from voting for Obama.............NOT!

That's right, we live in a civilized society. Civilized people don't extort each other at the point of a gun. What's "respectful" or "compassionate" about stealing peoples' rightful property?

Obama. You think he hasn't been pre-selected by the SuitMonsters?

The kinder, gentler face of evil. I agree with Morgan_Freeman, statists aren't on my list of good candidates for president.

Obama's race is irrelevant to me, but I think it may be highly relevant to America's sheeple.

The Dems might nominate him. I have a more amusing question: What year will be the first time for the GOP to nominate a black person for president?

he's been in the senate how long? a whopping 2 years. that makes him highly qualified?? i guess my definition of "highly qualified" is a bit different than yours. by your logic, bush was even more qualified for the job...

the two most important issues to me are iraq and the federal deficit.. mentionable runners up are education, healthcare and energy. other issues, from immigration to gay marriage, to abortion rank amongst the lowest from my perspective.

on spending, barak opposed reducing spending and he doesn't have any ideas about what to do in iraq. so, he completely fails my test.

i like his positions and record on education, healthcare and energy - but that doesn't negate his poor positions on the two most important issues to me. so, while i would lean towards voting for him, i probably wouldn't.

hope for america...

The Demos latest political diety is a good description of Obama~
He has good looks, a booming voice, and at least partial membership in a victim group, certainly enough to qualify him for the office of President. Add to this he attended an Ivy league school and had the cranial capacity to graduate and later get a law degree.
I would consider that on its face as more than a sufficient background to run for President. I think he and Hillary Clinton on a ticket would be a powerful factor. Wonder which will dare to subordinate ego and settle for second place in the 2008 election?

Thus we play the fools with the time, and the spirits of the wise sit in the clouds and mock us.

I saw him talk about what he would do in Iraq on Charlie Rose. Reduce our troop levels so that the Iraqi government and Syria and Iran can lose the two way protective cover of using us as scapegoats for the regions troubles while avoiding any responsibility for fixing those troubles. Involve regional partners in the process. Stop trying to impose democratic reforms at the point of a gun. The other countries have a vested interest in avoiding a collapse in Iraq because they would be flooded with refugees and or drawn into any sectarian violence that rages. But those pressures are only going to come to bear when we stop allowing the massacres to continue while propping up a government that refuses to take any responsibility for what happens. He has a policy. It just aint "Stay the Course".

I've heard from a poster who is close to the Bayh campaign, that Obama and Bayh share staff members, I think Obama would be smart to become Bayh's VP and in another 8 years be poised in an UNSTOPABLE position of incumbant to run for President. Obama is young and can wait for older racist voters to pass away and a younger more open minded electorate to rise to power.
