Bunch of Neo-Libs!! I am a White American Voter, though I would prefer to be called an "American Voter" and have all other "______ American Voters" be referred to as the same. It's a shame that even after the Civil Rights Movement, desegregation, Martin Luther King, and any other attempts to level the playing field that I have failed to mention, Americans still try to segregate themselves and band together to share the "chains that bind". This only serves to strengthen those proverbial chains. We should advocate breaking those chains and chasing the American Dream. I see people who have come to this country from Asia, Europe, and Latin America who were clearly at a disadvantage. Many have had to learn the language and have established themselves as productive members of society, but there are millions who were born here and can only see the negatives. "The Man" is keeping them down. The way out of poverty is hard work. If you are uneducated and you feel like that is holding you back, go get an education. There are many ways to finance an education, many of which are already paid for by the government.

By the way, Gays are not an opressed people!! Sorry you guys can't get married. Maybe we can work out legal unions so that all you can share the benefits that are enjoyed by straight couples. Until that happens, and I believe it will happen, lets all just be Americans.

find your ignore button and SHOVE IT, if you have a problem with my posts, cuz I'm not going to edit out the gay issues that seem to make you uncomfortable.
Whoooooo touched a nerve there eh underbear.. I don't have a problem with your posts. It is merely your attitudes and emotional thinking that defies logic.

Edit gay issues??? You??? LOL Your every post mentions them. We have a good number of gays here at Volconvo who don't weave homosexuality into their every post, underbear. Refreshing.

I am neither uncomfortable nor offended by your tactics. I understand your activism, but once again, "your in your face, I have to weave homosexuality into my every post", merely gets quite predictable and somewhat weary. It frames you in a monolithic way that makes you predictable and redundant.
But heh, what do I care. It ain't me.

I wouldn't dream of placing you on my ignore list because you are too entertaining. Keep up the comedy.

Btw, if you want to keep up the personal banter, move it to the PM option. No need for this personal criticism to be out on the boards. Stick to the issues please.

If this attitude happened during the 1960's or the 1920's
we'd still have Black people drinking from seperate drinking fountains, being sent to underfunded schools, riding in the back of buses.
We'd have women unable to vote, and barred from attending most Universities.
The majority of Americans took up these challenges, and progress was made. If you can't support LGBT equality fine, lead, follow, or get out of OUR WAY!

Be my guest underbear. I hold no animosity towards you. My posts always directly deal with comments upon your ideas and never have I attacked you personally. So place me on your ignore, if you think you must. So be it.:)

My opinion of black politicians:
I once heard a joke that if you see a crowd of gangsters, all black, and in the crew there is one white guy then you better believe that white guy is the biggest baddest one of them all.
But I say, be afraid of the black man in a room full of white politicians, you have to be a big fucking fish to swim in a shark tank.

I am so thankful I was not born poor or black. I personally would probably not have the willpower to overcome it. It isn't exactly easy to go get an education when you don't see that as the solution to your problems.

We still do. It is not official separation, but rather economic separation. Nevertheless, we still have that.

There are poor school districts but they aren't segregated specificly to target Blacks, that was the case before the Supreme Court case Brown .

Returning to the topic - an interesting article on Obama.

Is the Obama honeymoon ending?
Quote:
For all those who believe media coverage of Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) has made him out to be a latter-day Mr.-Smith-Goes-to-Washington, there's the new Harper's magazine cover story whose essential point appears to be that the junior senator from Illinois is really shaping up to be a tool of the monied interest.

The piece by Ken Silverstein isn't available on the Harper's website so you'll need to go buy a copy of the magazine if you want to read the entire thing.

But here's a taste of the article which is captured in its last couple of sentences. "On condition of anonymity, one Washington lobbyist I spoke with was willing to point out the obvious: that big donors would not be helping out Obama if they didn't see him as a 'player.' The lobbyist added: 'What's the dollar value of a starry-eyed idealist?' "

Very little, is the answer both the lobbyist and Silverstein imply. Obama has raised a lot of money from such lobbyists so draw your own conclusions, the article seems to say.

A lot of lobbyists have contributed to Obama's campaign and political action committee for the same reason a lot of non-lobbyists are energized by him--he's smart and charismatic, Silverstein suggests.
