Republicans hire new spokesman - Bin Laden

After failing at everything else, fear-mongering seems to be the only tactic that the Republicans have left.

GOP terrorism ad sparks Democratic furor
Quote:
Republicans took a page from President Johnson's Cold War-era presidential campaign with an advertisement set to air this weekend called "The Stakes," which prominently features al Qaeda leaders threatening to kill Americans.
Pathetic. Do you think that it will work?

Why would Bin Laden need to make more recruitment videos, looks like he outsourced that job to the Republicans.

An excerpt from Olbermann tonight on Republican terror-mongering:
Quote:
There is a cheap “Texas Chainsaw Massacre” quality to the whole thing, and it also serves to immediately call to mind the occasions when President Bush dismissed Osama bin Laden as somebody he didn’t think about—except, obviously, when elections were near.

Frankly, a lot of people seeing that commercial for the first time, have laughed out loud.

But—not everyone.

And therein lies the true threat to this country.

The dictionary definition of the word “terrorize” is simple and not open to misinterpretation:

“To fill or overpower with terror; terrify. To coerce by intimidation or fear.”

Note please, that the words “violence” and “death” are missing from that definition.

The key to terror, the key to terrorism, is not the act—but the fear of the act.

That is why bin Laden and his deputies and his imitators are forever putting together videotaped statements and releasing virtual infomercials with dire threats and heart-stopping warnings.

But why is the Republican Party imitating them?

Bin Laden puts out what amounts to a commercial of fear; The Republicans put out what is unmistakable as a commercial of fear.

The Republicans are paying to have the messages of bin Laden and the others broadcast into your home.

Only the Republicans have a bigger bank roll.

olbermann definitely has a nack for breaking things down to the lowest common denominator.

i guess the problem here is that voters don't perceive the republicans to be the enemy... doesn't matter if they've spun the country towards insolvency or that they've waged a completely unnecessary war that has increased the threat of terrorism... voters continue to see them as allies who are "strong on defense" solely because they start unnecessary wars they have no intention of finishing and are willing to spend $5,000 gazillion to prove that they support defense (even though they sent troops into iraq without sufficient equipment - and the number of troops used was arguably much lower than they should have been)..

hope for america...

Unfortunately, fear mongering has worked in the past, so it remains to be seen whether it will work in two weeks. I think we have to keep in mind that most Americans are probably ill informed and can't separate fact from fiction. It is clear to me that the electorate is fed up with wars in the Middle East but the question remains: Will the US completely withdraw from the Middle East or will the Democrats fall short of total disengagement when they ascend to power ? It is interesting to see politicians calling for disengegement is the Middle East, but not really.

We will see.

The RNC has announced a new color code - dark brown, signifying "deep shit", a condition in which they are increasing finding themselves.

Bwahahahahahahahahahahaha...

It's so ironic that sombody as well spoken as Osamma would outsource his message to GW, and Co.. I guess some messages need to be dumbed down to the lowest common denominator to have full effect, and if thats the case, Osamma made the right call here.

Perhaps we will even see people leaving governmnet become add execs instead of going into lobbying. Lets face facts here, people are buying what they are selling to some extent.

Sure its pathetic but so was Bush's first 4 years. I didn't think there would be any chance for him to be re-elected after his first term either. Was that a matter of voting stupidity or was it a matter of voting fraud? Or maybe some of both?

As to whether this Bin Laden ad works we might all know soon enough.

Nice Bush bashing! You guys must make up the entire Olberman audience. I accidentally saw that idiot's show one night and that was all it took. It was obvious to me that he is a wannabe communist anti-American terrorist sympathizer. He was blathering about the US treating terrorists harshly and crying about gay marriage. He sounds an awful lot like Al Franken to me with a little more school under his belt. These people are once again on the wrong side of history!! Good luck to the democrats!! If this is the type of rhetoric they plan on using to get elected they are going to need it.

So, are you trying to say that you don't care for the current administration. That seems to be what I gather from everything you say. I hope no radical murderer blows himself up near you or anyone you love!

I hope not!! That would suck!! Do you think that if the democrats win the White House in '08, they would relinquish the power that this administration has given the executive branch? I think not!

These imperial powers were ALL REPUBLICAN! Even some of the moderate Republicans refused to vote for them. So leave the blame where it belongs Cheney and Alberto Gonzales.

Absolutely not.

That is why anybody voting Republican, or Democrat has nobody but themselves to blame come 2008, er, I mean 1984.

2008 = 1984

I never said that it wasn't the Republicans who passed this. I am just saying that no political party is going to relinquish the power that this administration has bestowed upon them. I am not concerned that I may be picked up in the street and sent to GITMO, but I still don't fully trust Democrats or Republicans to run this country.

I suppose if one thinks that everyone who voted for Bush is stupid then one would have to arrive at either of two conclusions:

1) Millions of Americans are stupid. I doubt that; uniformed yes, but stupid, no.

2) Millions of other Americans are smarter than those who voted for Bush. I would be interested to see the evidence of this. Sounds a bit deigning to me.

It is easy to call millions of people stupid and be done with it. It is perhaps a little condescending to think millions of Americans are stupid because they voted for Bush. Afterall, look at the choices they had in the election; John Kerry, who did no better academically than Bush at Yale, or Bush who maintained a "C" average at the same institution. Perhaps the millions who voted for Bush simply thought he was a safer bet than Kerry. Furthermore, Presidential elections are not about intelligence, but more about the election process and who can manage it better than the other guy. Intelligence has near zero to do with elections.

As for intelligent voters, perhaps the only really intelligent voters are the ones who neither voted for Kerry or Bush.

As for voter fraud, it happens in many elections and has been documented since the 19th Century. Both parties are guilty of it. I am used to it.
