4 Turks tried for publishing Chomsky book:

4 Turks tried for 'insulting Turkishness' by publishing Chomsky book appear in court - iht, europe,Turkey Chomsky Publisher Trial - Europe - International Herald Tribune
Quote:
ISTANBUL, Turkey The trial of a publisher, translator and two editors charged with crimes for producing a Turkish version of Noam Chomsky's book, "Manufacturing Consent," was adjourned to a later date on Tuesday to give the defense more time to prepare.
The four men face up to six years in jail for "insulting Turkishness" and "inciting the people to hatred and enmity" by publishing the American leftist writer's book.
Keep in mind that Turkey is an ally of ours and a human rights abuser against Kurds. This country once banned the Kurdish language and now is going after people for publishing a book.

I am actually a reasonable fan of Chomsky and I'm wondering what are your views on this development?

They probably don't belong in the EU . . . that said, perhaps entry would, in time, improve upon their behavior. In any event there's never justification for this kind of censorship and I don't think this bodes well for their admission to the EU . . . Turkey contrasts too sharply with European liberalism (using the classical definition).

I am pleased, Chomsky should be banned everywhere, he is an insufferable anal orifice. Arduously repetitive, ponderous and really just a great re-hasher without a single original thought. A closet marxist with a persecution complex. Put him in the language department, his work on morphological analysis is much better than his platitudes of ploting plutocratic potentantes piloting the planet's path.

Where does this differ from your contributions, other than he is Left, and you are Right?

Well, OK, you might not have a persecution complex.

I'm baffled by your position rmnunez. Are you seriously advocating censorship?

No, but if I had to pick one author whose work I'd toss in the bonfire, that would be Chomsky.

Well, seeing as to how you've denied that states can commit terrorist acts, I personally see no reason to give your views the benefit of the doubt.
