AP: Air America Radio Files Chapter 11: Financial News - Yahoo! Finance

NEW YORK (AP) -- Air America Radio, a liberal talk and news radio network, has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection, a network official told the AP.

The network had denied rumors just a month ago that it would file for bankruptcy, but on Friday Air America said negotiations with a creditor from the company's early days had broken down.

The network will stay on the air while it resolves issues with its creditors, spokeswoman Jaime Horn told the Associated Press. A formal announcement was expected to be made later Friday.

that's a shame imo... i regularly listen to that station, even though i don't always agree with their point of view.

There are enough broadcasters who have their own following now that they dont really need the AAR network. We have two lefty stations on the left coast. If AAR goes away, there is already a window open for another station owner to fill the vaccuum. I dont start listening to AAR until Noon anyway. Thom Hartmann is FAR better than Al Franken in the 9am til noon spot. Earlier I listen to Stephanie Miller (not AAR).
Randi Rhoads(AAR) beats Ed Shultz by a long shot. AAR recently let Mike Malloy go, he was verrry radical. I liked him but by the time he came on I was ready for a little TV. So I really only listened to AAR from Noon-3:00 pm. I can still stream Randis' show, but it was nice having her ride shotgun.

i like the young turks myself.. i have little appetite for any of the radical loonies, but they're nice and balanced imo.

there's some other guy who i usually hear on the drive home from work.. can't remember his name, but he's painful to listen to because he behaves like o'reilly in the way that he's constantly talking over his callers. sometimes he's good though.

i've listened to franken several times and each time i came up thoroughly unimpressed. he should stick to writing books imo... the guy had bob woodward on today. franken decided to make a game out of how many times he could get woodward to say the word "reporter" or "report"... friggin stupid.
