Scientists look to place a pro-science president

Quote:
Frustrated by their government's position on the environment, climate change and stem cell research, a group of US scientists have decided to take matters into their own hands and actively promote the election of a president in 2008 who is more receptive to science.

Scientists and Engineers for America plunged into politics last week with the aim of campaigning for particular candidates, starting with the 2006 mid-term elections. SEA says that "scientists and engineers have a right, indeed an obligation, to enter the political debate when the nation's leaders systematically ignore scientific evidence and analysis."
Is it the right time for scientists to finally take Politics into their own hands?

Shouldn't everybody take politics into their own hands, and try to elect a government that supports their views and values?

No doubt before Bush&Co. are done redefining the Constitution, they'll include a "Seperation of Science and State" resolution to prevent godless heathens (remember this:
"I don't know that atheists should be considered as citizens, nor should they be considered patriots. This is one nation under God."
GEORGE H.W. BUSH, news conference, Aug. 27, 1987 ?) from holding office.

Maybe its time to get someone in office that dosnt have a defined relgion or dosnt use it in his descion making. With stem-cell research we can make great strides in the field of medicine. I thinks its about time someone with a scientific point of view should come into power, i would hope they would focus on science and math education, which are the two fields that our high school students failed at on a world level. There are so few enginers and scientists overall that companys that want to stay in the US have to go to other countries to find the labor and its not about price its about the education, and even though we have some of the best schools in the world a majority of college grads dont pursue careers in science or math, teachers now should try to make this stuff fun so students want to learn it, i want to major in astropyhsics or astronomy.
