That claim is much like saying that the store pays for sales tax. The only difference is tat stores tend to reject even placing sales tax on the purchase pricetag. Otherwise it would be exactly the same thing.

I know, I know.....I got screwed too. I have worked for 20 years and never even been eligible much less applied, and the system is a racket in the employers' favor. I was eligible under the guidelines but denied on a technicality and I am SO MAD for the PRICIPLE.

It didn't take too long to find another which I am grateful for but I really could have used that "insurance" instead of going into debt while I needed it.

HOWEVER it helps a LOT of people! Haven't you known someone who's butt was saved by it?

What if it wasn't there? The person who got it for 6 months, say...wow that's a lot more than nothing!

Also, you can bet if it went away you would not see a higher paycheck.

Also, I have employERS in my family and know that the cost is small so it may not be the worst thing in the world......

yes, Mia, it does help some people - but it HURTS more people!

What if it wasn't there? The person who got it for 6 months, say...wow that's a lot more than nothing!
yea, 'let them eat cake' - throw us some crumbs to keep us happy - don't be satisfied with less than your FULL RIGHTS to keep what you earn!

Also, you can bet if it went away you would not see a higher paycheck.
false. Just because you think you understand something doesn't make it so - it is economically provable that wages would increase directly to the decrease in employee costs savings - this is not my little fantasy or wish or desire, it is fact.

Also, I have employERS in my family and know that the cost is small so it may not be the worst thing in the world......
so what if its 'small'? IT HURTS! is dying by a thousand ant bites better than by one big ol' tiger chomp? Do not let your rights be 'chipped' away at no matter if they use a chisel (aka Patriot Act) or with fine sandpaper... you lose no matter what. Also, being 'the worst thing in the world' is a valuation which is BEST left up to individuals - you, or me, ARE NOT equipped to adequately determine for others what is 'so small so as to be unnoticable' or 'worth it' or whatever - perhaps other people lead very different lives and would rather save every single penny in an effort to provide for homeless children, would you deny them?

Leopard eloquently explained why I am a signing member of the FSP, and trying to save money for my move to New Hampshire. Also, thanks for the business offer as it is appreciated. I am getting together with some friends/partners tonight to discuss an LLC in the housing/refurbishing business. My friends already did one home, which I helped with much of the labor when needed since I have been unemployed, and we are discussing opening our own business. My goal was to be moving to New Hampshire within the next 3 years, but being layed off really put a crimp in that plan. WE will see. Do you live in New Hampshire Leopard?

Well, I just got a job as a limousine driver(yay) to stave off the bill collecting hordes a little while longer, until I can either open my own business, or save enough to move to N.H. to start my new business. It is a shame when someone such as I, with incredibly diverse spans of knowledge and experience is forced (by the market) to work a job like this because nothing else is available. I am TRULY, and UTTERLY thankful this position is there, as it was the last stop before places like fast-food, gas-stations, or FUCKING WAL MART! What a shame the industrial leader of the world has been reduced to a pimp of offshore manufactured goods. As long as the price shopping johns are happy, the market is happy in this system.
On top of all of this, President Adolf, I mean President Bush was in my hometown today, and I had to hear his speech about how GREAT the market is turning around. (HA!, can't believe he even had the nuts to say that in Ohio!) I also had to hear him drone on about how unemployment is dropping(because of all those extensions he cut, which he never seems to bring up when talking about shrinking unemployment claims!), and he also espoused a ton of rhetoric about how "his plan" was going to turn our nation around, bring more jobs, and help make life easier for "working Americans"...... do I really need to point out how it was just talk, and he didn't mention ANY tactics to actuall achieve any of that. More empty promises, more false hope, more playing on the fears of terror, he is a broken record of contradictions, lies and treason! UGH!

Sorry, had to vent that out. ( and for you Bush loyalists, I ripped Kerry a new ass when he was here last week too, so don't feel too picked on, they are both equally incompetent, equally liars, equally professional scam artists, and equally UNWORTHY of office.)

Hope to see you in New Hampshire Leopard, and I apologize for all the ranting. 7.5 months of seeding the market with applications, resumes, calls and over 300 resumes out, and I end up driving a limo..... it's been a bad day.......

its a good day! and potential opportunity to meet folks who have capital and might appreciate your other talents better than those who have received your resume...

either way - you ARE working, and for that I am glad!

That's an excellent business idea. Sometimes losing one's job is just the push they need to get something better for themselves....I am not trying to be pollyanna here, I am really serious. My job loss and subsequent illness forced me to go into free-lance which I had been telling myself to do for three years!

Eventually I can make the same money I was in 1/4 of the hours. I just didn't want to go through this painful economic phase first (I don't have enough business yet which is why I can bother all of you so much on here). So I was booted out of my laziness for my own eventual good!

On the economics of unemployment insurance I am not knowledgeable so I will leave that to you guys.

On Bush, all he has are tax-cuts to offer. Still no actual plan. Over and over he's asked and tax cuts are his answers.

I liked the extra $500 in my refund this year...but that doesn't go very far.

well, not that I am 'pro-bush' necessarily or anything BUT I would rather see YOU spending your $500 in the way you determine than the government spending it for political gain...

Absolutely true, but this does not solve the need for jobs as it supposedly does according to him.

A job would pay me more than $500/year!

I'll take both, please. But the job over the $500/year if I have to choose!

So investing in a high risk scheme instead of a safe one - precisely what freedoms does that give you?

Having supported Dubya's stealing monies that my generation (the Baby Boomers) have put into Social Security, through the tax cuts, some would now like to trick later generations into 'investing' in their pyramid schemes, so they could steal those monies directly, rather than indirectly. They see this as privatization -- privatizing the means as well as the recipients of theft.

Meanwhile, I see numerous reports that my generation is going to bankrupt the Social Security system. No, my generation has kept it going by our paying into it. It will soon be our turn to get some payout. It is the responsibility of the U.S. Government to assure that SS remains viable for my generation and for future generations, including those who have been paying in and who will continue paying in for some time. SS will go bankrupt by 2032 only if politicians let it, want it, to do so.
