Mike Malloy Fired from Air America Radio

Mike Malloy Fired from Air America Radio : Indybay
Quote:
Mike Malloy, one of the most popular radio hosts in the U.S., was fired yesterday from Air America Radio. Thus far, even Malloy doesn't know why he was fired, other than that AAR told him it was for "financial reasons."

Mike Malloy, one of the most popular talk radio hosts in the country, especially as a voice for the left, has been fired by Air America Radio ("AAR").

Malloy's termination comes at a time when he's been highly critical of Israel for its aggressive military attacks upon civilians both in Lebanon and Palestine. Many people are now asking whether Malloy's termination is related to such criticism.

Several weeks ago, Malloy boldly stated on the air that he reserved the right to criticize any country for its corrupt policies, including Israel. He said that if anyone had a problem with that, they should take it up with his boss.

Did some pro-Israel advertisers do just that and threaten to withdraw sponsorship?

Whatever the case may be, the fact is that AAR has lost its most powerful critic of Israel's militaristic policies in the Middle East.

Randi Rhodes, another AAR host, occasionally has criticized Israel's actions, but she doesn't have the reputation that Mike has for reaching the same level of intensity. The other AAR host, Al Franken, has been unconditionally supportive of Israel, which completely stuns many people in the peace community who say, "pro-Israel is NOT pro-gressive."

The bottom line is that AAR now has a host who completely supports Israel, and another who will be a little bit critical. Malloy's termination may very well have sent a message that nobody at AAR should dare to criticize Israel or offer vocal support, like Malloy did, for the democratically elected Palestinian and Lebanese resistance groups.

Finally, many people who listened to Malloy and the others on AAR are now considering boycotting the station until either Malloy is reinstated or someone just as popular and critical of Israel replaces him.

People are also signing an online petition to get Malloy reinstated at: Reinstate Mike Malloy on Air America Radio - Signatures
My skepticism of the "Left" in America is partially based on their misconception that supporting Israel in its war mongering and ethnic hatred is a good thing. Many don't see that nation for what it is: an aggressor, a militarist tool of US Empire.

Not counting the hosts themselves, did you really think AA would be LESS beholden to it's corporate interests then any other network?

No, Scrib. I am entirely cynical about the mass media. And AirAmerica is mass media.

Well, you make a fine point.

I think the issue was the average Americans inability to recognize aggression for what it is.

Logically, one can then assume since they do not recognize the naked aggrssion, they will not be inclined to ask the reason for the behavior. It's a benign circle.

The Public School Systems intended goals are coming to fruition.

You commented on another thread about another posters knowledge of history! Careful you tripping over your subjective tongue with this statement.
Do you suggest that in the current Hizbollah imbroglio that Israel started it? Do you suggest right after the Partition of Palestine that Israel started a war with the surrounsding Islamic countries? Do you suggest that Israel should sit idly by and duck when Syrian artillery starts lobbing shells from the Golan Heights?
From my perusal of history the armed aggression in the middle east has been started mainly by Islamic countries. I'm not about to let Israel off the hook either. Its actions in the Gaza and on the West Bank(Even in and around Jerusalem) have been too greedy. The settlements are obtrusive and illegal...but it has not been a starter of armed aggression and conquest.
To suggest because the US offers aid and arms to Israel that we are subsidizing a military tool is ridiculous. By that measure we are subsidizing a number of Arab countries too..subsidizing them with foreign aid as well as petro investments.

Thus we play the fools with the time, and the spirits of the wise sit in the clouds and mock us.

I'm not very familliar with Mr. Malloy, or his message.

I will say, it wouldn't suprise me if it was at the behest of his corporate overlords, for Malloys spoken opinions, whatever they may be.

The public should have "voted" with their dials long before this and boycotted ALL radio talk shows.

Right or left, you can't beat thinking for yourself once in a while. You don't need a radio personality to tell you how to feel about issues and if you listen specifically because the host agrees with the same things as you you're just wasting your time.

I like Malloy. He gets so angry at the current regime ...... he has to stab his thigh with an ice pick just to feel relief and continue his show.
I am surprised he lasted as long as he did! He is a great rebel for our times.
Somebody will pick him up. Fortunately we have two lefty stations here in Sacramento. Perchance the other will scoop him up!
AAR played Thom Hartmann in his slot last night (rerun). That was just temp, though because Thom is on live now.

Edit:
It took Air America a long time to add Mike because he is so radical.
It will take a bold soul to grab him. I couldnt listen to him very often......even though I agree with him on just about everything, I have to find some peace once in a while. For my own sanity

If AA booted him for being too "left" it seems unlikely he will show up on any other station unless he softens his delivery.
(Disclaimer: I never heard of the guy so what I just said is a guess based on what is being discussed in this thread.)

It seems a shame I never hear that from Limbaugh groupies. Maybe it's the sanity thing, as in they may have none to lose.

Malloy slammed Israel for their recent vicious assault against Lebanon. Even lefties gotta watch out for Zionist pressure when they say Israel did something wrong...

I wonder if Al Franken (Jewish) had anything to do with it.
I wouldnt be surprised if he has some controlling interest in the company (he acts like he owns the place sometimes). I dont know where Franken stands on the Israeli slaughter of Lebanon......Hes on at the same time as hartmann, so I dont listen to his show at all......for about a year now.

I'll check that out tomorrow, Dan. Thanks.

My personal favorite is Michael Savage. He has a screw loose and he seems to hate pretty much everything and everyone. I like consistency.
