Media Bias Against Freedom in Haiti

Invisible Violence: Ignoring Murder In Post-coup Haiti

Quote:
The introductions of sources in articles covering Haiti illustrates the reliance on official sources: “diplomats say,” “an anonymous diplomat says,” “a source involved in the palace brainstorming,” “a U.S. diplomat in Port-au-Prince said,” “U.N. officials say,” “Haitian police say,” “USAID workers explain,” “a member of Haiti’s electoral council said,” “the new commander of the U.N. peacekeeping force assured,” “council members said,” “interim officials say,” “State Department officials say,” etc. Rarely, if ever, do we read what the wounded, imprisoned and exiled say—the testimonies that don’t sustain the official story.
The reporters are not actually covering the stories from the scenes of horror. Just getting statements from the officials who perpetrate.

A tactic they learned would work when everybody started taking the State Departments word for eveything.

Why bother going out into the field to investigate ( only to have your hard work edited out of the story ) when you can just cut, and paste the "official story" into your wordpad, and hit "send", or "print", right?

Information is the currency of democracy, and propagand the currency of fascism. Which do you suppose we now have in this country?

I worked with a guy who recently came from Haiti at one of my last jobs. (Limo Driver)

He wouldn't even CONSIDER that the U.S. could do anything wrong because HE got the chance to leave Haiti, and since coming here, has done very well due to aid programs, grants, etc.

Trying to talk politics with this guy was nearly impossible, and his gratitude was so misplaced I didn't have the heart to break it to him who caused so many problems in his nation.

A nice guy, but one of the most politically confused people I have ever met.

I think Milton Bradley hit the nail on the head about this one.

Misinformation will be one of the factors promoting the downfall of humanity.

We watch it every day in the media I think Russell.

The American media is great at giving corporate intrest news. They fail in giving the people unbiased information on which to make intelligent political decisions however, since they are all biased toward corporate intrest, due to their corporate owned monopoly, and thousands of corporate lobbyists and sponsors.
