| Location: Finland Posts: 712 | I saw a pretty interesting documentary about the political issues in Venezuela concerning Hugo Chavez and his opponents. It made me wonder why I didn't know more about it. To me, it seems as the truth hasn't been told about him - at least in "western" media. Link to Alternet about the media issue. What I ended up thinking after seeing the documentary was; It seems logical that the US had something to do with the rise of the opposition. I'd like to hear from someone more into the issue. (Google search with keywords "Hugo Chavez" and "CIA") So what do you think? Just another attempt at an admin. -change in S.America by the US by proxy because of something as "typical" as oil and political reasons? |

I read an article not too long ago that Chavez says he has proof that he CIA was planning to down his plane while he was en route to Washington. He also alleges that the US government was behind the coup that ousted him for a short time. I don't like his links to Castro, but it's obvious that Washington is not happy with him. I'll need to do a little more research before I form an opinion. |

Is the network media in this country doing that effective a job at disinformation in this country? After all, if Rush or O'Reilly didn't say it, it must be SPIN! America I've generally found it's easier to assume the CIA or the U.S.in some significant form has been involved in the overthrow of most leaders and imposition of many dictators in S. America. | Igneous Magma Posts: 374 | yeah I remember a few years ago thinking chavez had been deposed for good and that he was a right wing authoritarian dictator. Then I read Palast's book and did a double take. Just goes to show ya how bad our media is when it comes to foreign policy.
