Why are the Isreali tanks I'm seeing on my television all marked with chevrons tilted at different angles?

Why are our troops in Iraq marked in exactly the manor? ( The armor bears no American marking whatsoever, but has the same chevrons tilted at different angles. )

Is anybody else noticing this stuff?

Does anybody out there have a rational explanation for this ( seemingly unnoticed ) phenomenon?

I would suspect they're unit marking, like our division and unit markings and patches. Perhaps one of the members who lives over there can tell us for sure.

Apparently it's a "V" and not really a chevron. Isherwood gets the cigar.

If I recall correctly, this practice was started by U.S. units in Desert Storm after a series of friendly fire incidents. The chevron was easy to identify.

Anticipating the followup question -- what's to prevent enemy armor from applying their own chevrons? Don't know.

Thank you Sir. My interest was mainly about us using the practice, but any clue was indeed welcome.

I knew this adaptation was fairly recent, but thanks for pinning it down for me.

There is still the nagging question of just why the ( our ) armor bears no American identification.

This practice is very peculiar in my view.

Was provided by the U.S. Google it. Every bomb, fighter jet, you name it. You may not have known that, but the Palestinians throwing rocks, their only weapons besides suicide bombers, have known this for a very long time. File under: "Why They Hate Us".
