| Volcanic Erupter Location: Hong Kong (for now) Posts: 7,016 | "Stop Doing This Sxxx", Bush Says Mon Jul 17, 6:33 AM ET ST PETERSBURG, Russia (Reuters) - A microphone picked up an unaware President Bush saying on Monday Syria should press Hezbollah to "stop doing this shit" and that his secretary of state may go to the Middle East soon. Bush was talking privately to British Prime Minister Tony Blair during a lunch at the Group of Eight summit in St Petersburg about an upsurge of violence in the Middle East, not realizing a microphone was recording what he said. "I think Condi (Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice) is going to go pretty soon," Bush said. Blair replied: "Right, that's all that matters, it will take some time to get that together." http://politics.netscape.com/viewsto...c_1&frame=true But here's my question: Who's doing more shit? Hezbollah? Or Israel? What do you think? |

| Retired Posts: 7,312 | I have fallen behind in following everything. I mean, it was Hezbollah that 'started it'. I think Israel's response was overboard. But I don't know all of the goings-on over there for the last year or so. Everyone's been behaving badly for a long time. "...with like-minded people one cannot discuss. | Look Stuff Up Posts: 810 | Hezbollah was supposed to be out of there as part of the agreement with Israel to withdraw from Lebanon and of course Hezbollah stayed, has lobbed missiles now and then and most recently invaded Israel to take some of their military prisoners. This is it, Israel is no longer taking it and this is going to be a gloves off policy from here on out. The Jews gave up all the land that was asked for in exchange for peace and they were attacked for it, so they should do IMO what ever they need to in order to secure themselves. I know if Hezbollah or Iran tried this crap on our shores we'd be invading, so I have no problem with Israel at all here. |

| Retired Posts: 7,312 | There never was an agreement between Israel and Lebanon for Hizbollah to leave. Israel withdrew mainly due to Barak winning on the platform of withdrawl. The UN resolution seemed to have no effect until 70% of the Israeli population wanted the withdrawl. The UN called for Lebanon to stop all terrorist attacks from within its borders. The whole scene looked a little too casual on TV. Not a day goes by that I don't see something that reinforces my belief that people are idiots. |

| Skeptical Patriot Posts: 7,746 | It is conceivable that Hezbollah might even take over the Lebanese government after this, much like the Taliban. Lebanon has a pretty much impotent government as it is and with Syria and Iran backing these swine a coup may be in the cards pretty soon. I understand the frustration Israelis must feel but you can't start bombing civilians to get at some faceless enemy who may or may not be in the vicinity. It's my understanding a lot of the missiles coming from Lebanon are on timers and are aimed and set, and then those who set the timers get as far away as possible leaving the civilians to feel the heat from Israel. You would think the world might have paid attention to the mistakes made by the Bush administration and tried to avoid civilian casualties. It sure as hell isn't going to win Israel any sympathy from among the average Lebanese. Not a day goes by that I don't see something that reinforces my belief that people are idiots. |

| moderat-e/o-r Location: boston Posts: 11,184 | yeah... the thing i really don't understand is why israel is intentionally attacking the lebanese military - which has done NOTHING to provoke such attacks against it.. like you said, it's impotent as it was, now they're even more powerless. the lebanese government is nothing if the lebanese military is decimated - they'll never be able to control their own territory and hezbollah's preeminence will only grow. this article here is replete with examples of israel attacking lebanese regulars... and ynet often takes a much more right-wing approach, rather than the more moderate haaretz.. http://www.ynetnews.com/Ext/Comp/Art...277696,00.html |

| Redskins Rule Location: South-Western Virginia Posts: 2,454 | The Bush Administation appointee to head the FCC responds to the overeaction of bible thumpers and fines skyrocket. Among the things one can be fined hundreds of thousands of dollars for is broadcasting "vile" words, like "SHIT". Bush lauds this. Then Bush says this vile word, at an event that was mic'ed and broadcast. Maybe they weren't supposed to be on in that moment, but he knew they were there. I, for one, realize that these world leaders all use profanities, just as we all do, in everyday conversation. So what, they are human. So long as they don't get vulgar when speaking pro forma, then what harm is using common vulgariites when speaking extemporaneously? The media just can't help from pissing all over themselves over the "hot mike" mistake by someone whom they love to catch in any compromising position they can these days. . Bishop has it right when he stated it really only overshadows the importance of what he was really saying to Tony Blair. The news media looks just as jerky as the Pres in this one. Israel’s response? What is it like to be the state harried for years by several groups, supported by several states, that have called for the cessation of your existence. Hezbollah? As a group formed with the purpose of eradicating another nation state, I find them less than acceptable in terms of being a credible entity with which dealings can be helpful. Indeed, Syria should press Hezbollah to “stop this shit”. In fact, every nation should press them to stop. Bush’s sentiment is one that should be shared by all. Press Hezbollah to stop | |
