He did. I remember 10-15 years ago checking out (from our public library) a VCR tape of Nostradamus predictions prior to when the Soviet Union collapsed. The narrator of the tape had made educated future predictions based on the writings and it included the downfall of the Soviet Union. Before this had actually happened! When it actually did happened, it was like deju vue to me after seeing that tape.

But there were many other predictions they talked about (such as a nuclear accident in New York City) that still have not occurred yet. But I suppose it is possible that they simply missinterpreted the nuclear accident with 911.

Another interesting thing I remember about it all, was that Nostradamus apparently gave 2 different possible futures. And one of them was a lot better than the other.

Interesting. What was the specific quatrain he referenced? Those things are all pretty vague as far as I know. This might be something like "a big bear falls into a wall" or some such thing.
I'm not saying you're wrong but I don't recall anything he did being anywhere near specific.

And each one highly speculative I'll bet.

Actually, in reference to the 2 possible futures, that isn't just Nostradamus.

Many Egyptian pyramids have timelines in them, and in the near future (next 200 years or so) they have a split. One line follows paths upwards and outside to the sun. The other line drops into pits, some vitually bottomless, dug under the pyramids.

The idea that there is some pivotal event that will literally decide the fate of mankind is very common cross-cultually... too common to be coincidence.

Because the dating system used is difficult to translate, it's possible that this pivotal event has already happened.

And while some could say that the steady corruption of America is evidence of the negative future, a Belgian friend of mine pointed out, "Why would the fall of America be a bad thing for the rest of the world?"

Either way, polar futures is a very interesting concept.

Actually, there can be an infinite number of alternate futures, but we only get to have ONE and Nostradamus' worthless after-the-fact "predictions" don't give much insight into what actions to take to send us towards the future we'd LIKE to have.

Therefore, since we have no clue as to whether it happened or not this information is valueless.
A dating system can only tell us WHEN, but did the Egyptians ever mention WHAT was supposed to happen (or not happen)? If not, what good is this information?

That's the problem with this guy. Personally, I would be happy to turn my entire house into a Nostradamus shrine if we could get ONE prediction for a war or a 9/11-type situation we could act on BEFORE it happens. I think my house is safe for now.

I don't buy any of it and I believe Nostradamus would be a LOUSY partner to have for a weekend in Vegas.

I agree with you that the quatrains sound like goubly goop to me also but there are people who do believe they can make sense out them.

Its been many years since I saw the tape but here are some of what I remember. I remember that the Soviet Union was called by Nostradamus as the "country of the north pole" or something like that. And his prediction is that the U.S. and (former) Soviet Union will once again be allies during the next world war (WWIII). And also once again, Europe will be allies with the north pole countries. There will be some kind of 3rd anti-christ (Napolean and Hitler were the first 2) that will come from Mongolia or close by. WWIII will be won by U.S., Europe, and Russia again.

That part still hasn't happened yet. But if it does come about in either of our lifetimes, you will be able to say de ju vue too even though you have only heard it second hand from me.
