In other words, if the Bible addresses issues that are effecting society you would rather be ignorant of what the Bible says and not know it?

Dude, are you feeling persecuted, or what? Obviously that is a blind jab meant to illicit a negative kneejerk reaction. How do I know? It's a huge aaumption on your part.

I find that very interesting because there is no shortage of those on this thread that take delight in attacking the Bible, and from what you just said, they would be happier if they could just attack it without knowing what it says about issues. You know what? That doesn't surprise me. That is also my own estimate of most of them. At least we agree on one thing.

Perhaps it is beause the bible has no real place in this discussion, since we originally talking about government policies. Again, I think you are asking to be persecuted for your Christian views, only because you keep bringing it up in the wrong discussions.

And in what way has anyone on this forum deprived you of your free will? Do you mean that eating off another man's pocketbook is a matter of free will?

My contention was that the government prevents me from giving to the charity of my choice by donating all my monies where they see fit. ( Like both sides of the Isreal, Palestine conflict. )

My point was that the U.S. government was never empowered to donate my monies anywhere in the name of charity. That is what we were attemting to discuss here.

GEG,

Yes, if you are pregnant or caring for a child you can get out of the work requirement in most cases.

I certainly agree with you that the government oversteps its proper bounds. There was much more individual contribution for charitable purposes before the gov. decided to horn in on what people were doing much more efficiently than the gov. has since it became involved in being charitable with other people's money I guess you heard about Davy Crockett and his comment when congress was proposing rebuilding a widow's property which she had lost by fire. He rebuked them, saying that they had no such authority and then proposed that if the congressment were really sympathetic, they would donate their own money rather than the people's money. I think the "good hearted" congressmen decided to drop the matter. With today's media, Crockett's real point would be ignored altogether and he would be ridiculed in papers across the country for being "heartless."

There is a lot we agree on. I live in the real world, and I take it seriously. At times I go on a rant because there are so many on this forum who take delight in heaping scorn upon the Scripture and by reflex I stress what the Bible actually says. On this point it says generally what most of us have been saying. I admit that it is more severe against indolence, but it is for a good reason. Though I speak of starving, it is not because I believe anyone would starve, but that hunger from not being fed by others is supposed to be the thing that drives us to take action by going to work.

The thing really wrong about our system is that it is the federal government that is tending to this nationwide problem which would be much better, more cheaply and efficiently managed by individual states. In dealing with those who are slackards in makes much more sense to have someone who is close enough to them to get ahold of them. That is why I believe that it is the responsibility first of those who are their kin to shake them up.
