Russian and US citizens see each other as potential enemies?

The cold-war paradigm of Mutual Assured Destruction (MAD) between the US and Russia never really went away, and experts warn of a replay of the old superpower arms race. Citizens both in the USA and in Russia see each other as potential enemies, thinking that another cold war is inevitable. However some experts believe that fresh talks between the heads of the two countries can change the situation for the better.

So how do you feel about Russia or the Russians?

Heh, in few years, we should be very close economically having just been raped by the same group that ended up with all their money.

Not sure really.


Recent revelations in the Western media have proven most of those proverbial labels they have historically placed upon us ( such as "expansionist", "capitalists pigs"," the aggressors" ) to be accurate, so it's likely they have a rather bleak view of us. ( As do most of the places where the State Department operates.)


However, the Russian people, and the Russian government are two entirely different entities, and probably don't deserve the group assessment, particulary based on what our government told us about them. ( I tend to hate on individual merrit rather than lumping groups together that don't deserve that type of treatment, or each other. )


Going to have to reserve judgement based on ignorance.

Russia is riding high on record oil profits and energy reserves. Putin could not be regarded any higher by the Russian people at this time for "standing-up" to the Americans. Ultimately they are foolish to not recognize Iran as a threat, they have delt with the islamic extremist, most of these groups would gladly kill Russians. Eventually I think Russia will turn around...

Err..I don't think you understand the Russian situation, the Russian people like Putin for standing up to the oligarchs like Khodorkovzky (sp?). And Russia is not riding high on oil, a bunch of oligarchs are, which is why Putin is fighting back. But your right, Russia will turn around, there is a revolution on the way, I'll bet your right bollock on it.

My world revolves to a great extent around the Internet, and honestly, I have yet to see one valid email in any of my inboxes with an .ru country code. In a similar vein, I only know of 2 or 3 programmers from Russia or its former blocs who are involved in worthwhile application development. A majority of identity theft rings are being traced back to that same area.
So maybe we've entered a cyber cold war period.

They deal with Muslim extremist already out of Khazkstan and don't forget the Ruskies brutal invasion of Afganistan you know the Muslims extremist haven't. The Russians have deep economic ties to Iran; therefore, they have vested interests in seeing a stable Iran.

Much like the reasons we support and stand behind Saudi Arabia.
