Tell that to the poor girl who was murdered in Sicily for getting pregnant out of wedlock. I think it has more to do with with their strict catholicism rather than being mafia.

Treating women as second class citizens is not the preserve of Islam, far from it.

There's a lot of debate going on among the Islamic scholars. Many of the verses of Koran are misinterpret and created huge differences on the meaning .
The world is changing faster than anytime in it's history. Muslims are waking up to catch the train . This is causing many turbulent situations among the societies.
Bashing Islam or any other relegion will not do any good to anybody . Let the people realize their relegion properly. They are smart enough to judge if that is worthwhile or not.
You'll be surprised to learn that only the hardcore followers go to the gatherings of mullahs who declare death to the west every other day. But when it comes to listening to the persons like Mahathir - every country has to restrict the entry as thousands try to enter.
Christianity has travelled a long way and finally trying to settle down . The western governments are successful as church and govt are separate.
But in Islamic countries it is still a far cry.
Saudi Arabia - using Islam to legitimize the King - supported by the US. This is the single largest source to spread mullahism .
Iran - Islam is the main logic to cling to power - hopefully a new form of democracy will emerge to address the needs of Iranian people.
Pakistan - democracy killed by the military , Fundies are funded by the Saudis, frustartion is high and so mullahs are getting enough young people to become Talebans.
Egypt - The West has created the worst form of Democratic mockery.

This list can go on.
As a firm believer on human power - I believe someday Muslims too will find their way and make a better life than what they have now.

What, are you telling me he wasn't engaging in a little Islam bashing himself? I've got nothing against Catholicism in particular, I was trying to highlight that Christianity is as plagued with misogyny as is Islam. As far as I can see, all monotheistic religions have a mean anti-women streak running right through them.

before islam claims it can be a religion of peace, it needs to stop training people to strap bombs on their chests, walk into crowded restraunts and blow themselves, along with dozens of innocent people, up. oh yes. they need to stop flying planes into buildings too. that'll help.

I don't know man, how can we decide which sect of Muslim is the truth and which sect of Christianity is the truth.

Going by pure logic, I think the sects that are the most extreme and most radical are the ones that are one with god. Dthmr would agree with me.

The fact of the matter all religions have many bad apple, whether its Christians, Jews, Hinus, Buddist (OK well they might be the exception), but by far the least tolerate are the Muslims. Don't believe me go to any Arab country and see how diverse the populations are.

Before any religion could be a "religion of peace" it would have to respect the rights of all individuals, regardless of any belief, including religion.

It would also have to be against ANY inititation of force, for ANY reason, or it wouldn't be peaceful.

All religions I have seen have used dogma at one time or another to peddle force "based on the sound judgement of those icons in power". Rarely is this type of order system honest, let alone having sound judgement.

Before the West claim to be democratic, concious , respectful ...they must stop training their leaders to attack any country with oil or strategic importance .
They should teach their leaders that killing innocent civilians are no heroic jobs.
That'll help a lot to eradicate terrorism / poverty / arms race ...............
