Welcome aboard, sergeant. Always nice to... errrrrr... see a new face?

How indeed. There's another new poster, gallo, who made a delightful point. IF the Bible is literally true, then doesn't that mean that God planted fossil evidence that the earth and life on it is far older than the Bible, and therefore he, God, says it is. Doesn't that mean, therefore, that God is lying to us about the earth, and then punishing us for believing the false evidence he's lying to us with?

.
Thank you for your welcome......

Older than the bible......hummmm....this may be stupid....but when did man use animal skin to write or paper......The 10 commandments were written on stone.....it would have been challenging to write the entire bible on stone!!!! Just a thought...however stupid it could be!

I remember some website years ago by a fundamentalist claiming that the bones we find are actually the bones of ancient demons, and that looking at them, studying them, or dealing with them in any way is evil and will bring malign influence and unclean spirits into your life and/or home.

I was raised to believe the world really was millions of years old but that evolution was false. Apparently the six days of creation were not literal. I guess after the dinosaurs died off, God created humans or whatever.

I'm not a creationist, I'm just saying what I was raised to believe.

I'm not quite sure what it is you are trying to argue..... the point made was that fossils appear older than the time frame alloted by the Bible. A literal reading of the Bible places the creation at approximately 4,000 bc.

It is just.

I misunderstood.....I thought the argument was surrounding the date of the bible itself...but yeah I guess that wouldn’t make sense.......brain wasn’t working....happens a lot lately!

I always thought people are making a mistake when they take the bible literally.....6 days could have been millions of years.....got to go...thinks for the time! I’ll have to contact my cousin on this...it would be interesting to hear from him on this again!

If you took the days as millions of years, but kept the literal order, you would have plants millions of years before the sun....

Either way it doesn't make sense, so it really doesn't matter. But at least if you translated "Days" as "steps," there would be less time between the creation of the sun and the creation of plants. I mean really, the entire cosmology is out of order from what science knows, lots of things are created before other things that need the latter... or something like that. But that's a topic for another thread, I think.

Perhaps steps would explain that. But how would steps as opposed to millions of years explain light before stars? It is foolish trying to compromise literalism with science. Either throw it away as a metaphor or stick to your guns!
Most Christians choose the former, the YEC's choose the latter, and I havn't yet decided where I stand.....

Sorry, I wrote that badly. I meant that the evidence says that the earth is older than the Bible, and therefore God, SAYS the earth is.

.

I don't suffer from insanity... I thoroughly enjoy it
