There's a sweet, young 13 yr-old girl walking along a street in Bangkok, Thailand. She's an innocent girl, a very bright, hard working student who's devoted to her family and devout in the Buddhist faith taught to her by her parents, extended family, Temple and community. Of course, being Buddhist, she does not believe in God or any deity, simply the teachings of Buddha. As she's walking along, she spots a Christian Missionary preaching the story of Jesus Christ to a small crowd. Being the bright, curious girl she is, she stops and listens for an while. She understands perfectly what the Missionary is saying, and even asks a few interested questions, but after a bit she thinks about what she's heard and decides that she still believes in the faith of her family, friends and community. Satisfied with that thought, she turns and steps out into the street, where she is promptly hit by a runaway bus and killed instantly. Is she damned to unendurable agony for all eternity? . His whole entrance,... asking his rhetorical question, allowing the rabble to offer up their feeble answers, patiently gracing us with a few brief clarifications before the grand unveiling his essay on the >>true answer<<. He has no comprehension that this is a discussion board. I'm unaware that he's ever simply participated in any topics but his own. No, to him it's the Mindonfire Show, and we're his audience. . The compassionate thing to do is not to force your worldview on someone, firstly, but if they need help to provide it to them. Compassion isn't "talking to" someone for a few minutes to make yourself feel like you aren't judgemental (which is exactly what you'd be doing)-- it's finding this person food, shelter, a program they can take part in. Or maybe it's respecting his free will and letting him get high, who knows? I'd like to point out that you have a twisted view of what the big bad homeless drug addict must be like. You talk about them like they are just an idea, or a race all their own... they aren't. They are human beings with mothers, sisters, friends, opinions -- and compassion of their own. I've know them, I've had them in my family, and they're just like anyone else essentially. If you want to judge people and make assumptions about their circumstances then fine, the only one you'll have to explain that to is your maker. I, for one, find you to be an embarassment to Christianity, and Sonart pointed out why. |
