birth place of Abraham

http://www.turkishpress.com/travel/view.asp?id=66367

This comes from an archeology site. It is a story about the third generation of a family that cares for the birth place of Abraham in Ur.

Oh, and all this time I thought that Abraham was born in a log cabin on the Illinois frontier.

Okay, that was funny. Frankly I want to see some proof that the place in Ur is actually the place where Abraham lived, and not just a good tourist scam. I like the story because it gives crediblity to Hebrews translating Sumerian stories. In the Sumerian story, "the lady who makes live", Eve, is one of the goddesses who helps heal the river. Then the river asks a goddess for helpers to help him stay in his river banks. She made a man and woman from mud and blew life into them. This story goes on to a story of the flood, equal to the story of Noah, except it is about several gods.

Because these stories start as stories about several gods, the bible has the uncomfortable problem of being about one god and awkwardly mentioning other gods.
I wonder how Christians would react if they understood, the bible does accept the existence of more than one god. We are told there is one true god, but at the same time the existence of other gods is acknowledged.

Native Americans from Canada and down, gave themselves names that mean "the real people". In the area of Ur people had patron gods, who took care of them and no one else. The bible comes out of this mentality. This does not mean there is no God, or no after life, or no reason to be moral. It means there is no big separation between religion and myth. One mythical god won out over all the others, and it is worth our time to learn what really happened.

Dawn falls Eve. Enlightenment falls the darkness.

Maybe I missed something, but where does the Bible mention these other gods?

Hmmmm, then what the heck were they talking about when it was commanded that "Thou shalt have no other gods before me"? Seems pretty clear that even god knew of other gods. Unless of course those writing the commandments knew very well that there was no such thing as god or that one god was as good or worthless as another.

the Bible does mention these other gods, but it does not necesarily support them, in fact it says "thou shalt not put other gods before Me"
