So it would be beneficial to have Christ be black for that group of followers or for all groups of followers?
Well, we already have many different images of who or what Jesus was because of all the different religions that hold different opinons about him, and his teachings. So why not?

If God created us in his own image then let's return the favor and create our own image of god and Jesus. Put the golden rule into full swiing. Have your own private personal Christ and savior. And while you are at it, be your own religion and foresake all others.

Jesus should be like the Barbie Dolls. You have a black Barbie, a Jewish Barbie, a Blonde white Barbie, a Spanish Barbie, just like week we sold this old Barbie (at swapmeet) which was a Arab Barbie complete with scarf for her face, she even had her own airliner to fly in. (yes, it is true).

So I think we should also have as many different kinds of Jesus as there are different kinds of people. So everyone can have a role model they can relate too.

But if you want to get real fundamentalistic - you should create no graven image of anything before God (who is image-less). Not even an image of Jesus (or Mary). Or even images of the cross. It is all taboo.

Concentrate your worship on "blank nothingness" and overcome the sin of imaging things that you do not really see.

The views expressed are not mine - I am just rattling my chains.

It is an excellant question, I know that Jesus was not white by any shot unless he was a displaced roman. If his family a few generations back immagraded to judea and became carpenters he could very well be white. On the same immage, rome conquared catharge, so they were in aferica already... perhaps he came from a family of settled traiders, the point is he could be black white, tan, dark tan... hell who knows. Honestly this even begs me the question... did he even exist... and more importantly does it even matter? I hoesn't don't think it does.

The best part is that durring the spread of christianity and esp catholicism, local artists made idols of mary and son in a local style, in china they were chinses, in russia, russian... in nabibia, they were nebibian... People want an idol and someone to look up to. Honestly... jesus's good side isn't that bad... hes a deacent choise.

How far do you think the Arab lands are from Africa? Righthand suggested that Arabs and East Indians are more racially mixed, because of the practice of harems. Men who could afford harems, enjoyed collecting women and they claimed all the children as their own. Unlike, Thomas Jefferson who had children with a black woman and could not claim them as his own children, at a time when white slave owners sold their own colored children. The other side of the world is racially blended. Not only is there a lack of distance between the racially different people, but the customs were more tolerant of blending.

Not that it matters, because my real point was, it would shatter Christianity if it were proven Jesus were a black man. If every picture of Jesus we saw, and every statue, were a black man, good Christians would stop attending their churches. So many of them could not tolerate Jesus being a black man, that it would be a major blow to Christianity. I would love it if the hyprocrisy could not be denied. I also think it would bring us closer to world peace.
He was born in the middle east - far enough from Africa to know he was not black. At this time in history, I think it's more difficult for people to accept that fact than the black theory.

It makes no difference to me, it's just simple logic to determine this. Many middle-easterners are caucasion, you know, so white Christians don't have to freak out too badly that He was ME.

Plus, he was born in Israel, and Christians love Israel.

"Recently, a team of forensic scientists from the UK and Israel attempted to construct what Jesus may have looked like. Starting with a skull from that time period, they reconstructed the face. Critics point out that this method only produces an image of a (perhaps typical) Jew from the first century, and does not say anything more about what Jesus looks like than a photo of one modern man tells you what another specific modern man looks like. See:"

Because of were they say Jesus lives, He was probably brown. All the people that live jerusalum now are brown, so Jesus probably was.

Nope. I'm waiting for the paperback. So don't tell me how it ends.

Hanks, not Cruise who is slated to star in the movie version. Have a nice day, Lords of Volconvo. :)

I don't think there is a place in the bible that says what color Jesus is. If I were to guess i think he would look arabic based on the location. But I for one do not care at all what color Jesus is. White, Black, Yellow..... it does not matter to me because the man gave his life so that I can join him in Heaven some day ( and I love him for it). I have always seen Jesus as a white guy...probably because most of the pictures of Jesus are drawn by white people. However that does not make Jesus white. Could somone point out to me what color Jesus is and what version of the bible you have derived your info. thanx.

For Christians, He was half Israeli (of the house and lineage of David). The other half was lilly-white God Himself. So there.

Well, if standard genetics rules even apply to divine births of a Spirit on a virgin.

That's tongue in cheek, of course.

Hum, I think only a White person would think God is also a White being.

I think that different races and different cultures give "God" a face that is familiar to them. Something they can relete too. When Chrisitianity took off, the Catholic chruch made Jesus blond and blue eyed, so the white folk would be more accepting of him. I think mankind creates "God" in the image of themselves, not the other way around.

Arabs are a mix of the negro and caucasion race. It's most likely that mix had not occurred yet in Jesus's time.

In the area he was born, the people were caucasion.

To this day, in some ME countries, you still find many caucasions. I dated a Syrian man who's skin is paler than my English, French, Irish mix! But he gets a tan right away that I don't :(

His blood is Assyrian and French, as are many people's from that region.

I'm wonderibg if there was a such thing as Aryans at the time.

I find it interesting that most people put the true Aryans, like Saddam, intoo the same category as the Semitic peoples further South.

It also blows my mind that the Arryan Nation chose the word Aryan. True Aryans are not what I would consider "White". However, I don't think they could be classified as Brown either.
