Why did humans have to be saved in the first place? Why did God want animal sacrifices and then have to sacrifice his own Son? Can you give a scientific explanation of these things? | |

Animal sacrifices--those of the lamb--were essential in Jewish society since the days of Cain and Abel because it shows a devotion to God. At the dawn of mankind, he favored Abel and his lamb sacrifices more than his brother Cain and his vegetable sacrifices; the lamb, of course, is very important to a farmer since it can be turned into a sheep for wool, meat, and other resources. Sacrificing its blood to God shows an inherent love for the Father since such opportunities are given up. Likewise, God giving up his only Son, Jesus Christ, for mankind's salvation (see my prior post) conveys His love for humans. Athena, some things cannot be explained in science, because they are matters of faith; this issue is one of those things, but scientific guidelines do not make it untrue. |

You are okay with a God having favorites? Would you treat your own children this way? Well, Johnny, I like Kathy's gift to me best, so deal with it and stop being resentful. Gosh, that will make Johnny feel great won't it? How can you be okay with a God like this? I wouldn't even like a parent who behaved as this God behaves. Hey, Johnny prove me how much you love me by killing a lamb for me. Or, instead of a lamb, prove to me how much you love by breaking the bike you got for Christmas. If the sacrifice is made better by how much someone wants/needs what is sacificed. Right? I don't think so. A parent who needs this reassurence of being loved, needs professional help. To keep your first born safe from the plague, paint your door with the lamb's blood. Common on, you really think this came from a God? It is pagan. No if's and's or but's about it. This animal and human sacrifice stuff is pagan. It is what all the other pagans were doing for their gods. The bible tells us the life force is in the blood. Okay, here is Greek myth, to demonstrate the thinking at the time of sacrificing animals. To speak with the dead, you must go to the opening of Hades, dig a hole, then slit the throat of a sheep and let the blood run into the hole. Then the dead can drink the blood and after they have drank the blood, you can talk with them, ask them questions, and they can answer. I seriously don't think modern people would choose a God associated with this understanding of life, if they knew about the times and false beliefs common during this time, that became part of the bible.
