Leviticus 39 "And in case your brother grows poor longside you and he has to sell himself to you, you must not use him as a worker in slavish service. 40 He should prove to be with you like a hired laborer, like a settler. He should serve with you till the Jublee year. 41 And he must go out from you, he and his sons with him, and he must return to his family, and he should return to the possession of his forefathers. 42 For they are my slaves whom I brought out of the land of Egypt. The must not sell themselves the way a slave is sold. 43 You must not tread down upon him with tyranny, and you must be in fear of your God. 44 As for your slave man and your slave girl who become yours from the nations that are round about you people, from themyou may a slave man and a slave girl. 45 And also from the sons of the settlers who are residing as aliens with you, from them you may buy, and from their families that are with you whom they had born to them in your land; and they must become your possession to time indefinite. You may use them as workers, but upon your brothers the sons of Israel, you must not tread, the one upon the other, with tyranny." Okay this is a direct quote from God. Why did the God a Abraham think His people were different from everyone else on the planet? What we He only talking to these people and not everyone else? Where in the bible does it say it is time to give up slavery? Why don't Jews have slaves today, considering God personally said they could? Last edited by Athena; Jun 11, 2005 at 02:15 am. |

Times have changed, and it is no longer socially acceptable, so although they have been given the right to have slaves by God, they do not have slaves because it is now considered to be wrong by society. As for Christians, they follow the teachings of Christ, who never said Christians could have slaves, but rather that everyone can be a son of God, and that God looks upon everyone in the same way. Otherwise, Gentiles would not have been converted. This way, he teaches that all men and women are equal before God, and God loves them all. Therefore none is lower than you, and you must respect everyone as you wish to be respected. Something some Christians (names will not be mentioned) have trouble dealing with. If you say the Bible has been changed from its real meaning, then how can you ever use it as part of your argument??? You say all these things that the disciples did, but at the same time you aren't telling anyone which parts of the Bible you do and don't believe! Please, enlighten us! ![]() "It is impossible to rightly govern the world without God and the Bible." -- George Washington

Starboy: Zing! You are right on on that one. If I am required to make an excuse for my speling it is this: I am in a hurry, If I can convey my meaning that is good enough. I am a scientist, and the steryotypes fit: my handwriting is horrible and I don't worry about spelling. That's what spellcheck is for, and an onling forum dosent warrent pasting into Word for spellchecking. Luckily for scientists Latin is easy to spell, so we usually get our technocal words right. James It is obvious that the Bible has been mutated. If you fail to see this you are denying something that all Bible scholars know. Very little of the Bible is the direct word of God. This does not diminish the importance of the Bible - it is just a more accurate way to interprit it. I won't say the best, because it ain't easy to use for beginners, but i'm sure God could figure it out. Linix is more for atheists whereas Windows is for supernaturalists that need a creator who has a purpose in mind for its adherents. All bow to Gates. Normal people can not use the argument that whatever something says is correct. I have herd a lot of people say that the bible is correct and the word of god becasue it says so. How about this... I am the presedent of the US becasue I say so. God wrote the bible becasue god said so. NIce... doesn't work. I ignore stop lights beasue I said I could. |

There is no truth that can't be debated but there is science which tries to surpass fake truths by proving them mathematically, since math can rarely lie. 人の振り見て我が振りなおせ。十人十色。 :( :)   ~ Debate Party |

It is not until Saul/Paul, who never knew Jesus, does the bible express any interest in gentiles. It was not Jesus nor the apostles that founded Christianity, it was Saul. A person that has every appearance of being an opportunist. Starboy Last edited by Starboy; Jun 12, 2005 at 03:56 pm. |

Good observation on Saul/Paul. He was probably the only type of person that could have made the church work. On top of that, Paul taught doctorine that has no scriptural support. Fixed ideas are like a cramp in the foot - the best remedy against it is to tread on it. -Søren Kierkegaard

| Igneous Magma Posts: 257 | Wow and here i thought god loved the US more then any body else. I wonder if other people say that god cares about them more... I mean who was it... Bush Snr who kept on saying that God thought the US was special? That god was behind the US in the war... and heres a fetus... yea sadams eating them over there... yea... god hates sadam, personally... how does anyone know what god likes or hates? Wasn't the old testimate written by the jews anyway... would have been bad PR to say that they were hated by god... I kinda wished the bible went into more detail about how THE GOD conquered all of the horrid pagan gods of those damn egyptions... that would have been something to see... |
