I admire the time and effort put into these debates, people have gone to great and admirable lengths to justify their beliefs, but I must ask, what possible use do I have for believing in a God?

If you believe we are merely the sum of of our flesh and blood, then you have no use for God, in any form.

If you believe there is more to our exsistence then the brief time we have as flesh and blood, then you really should look into the Bible, you might find somethings in ther ethat might surprise you. Concentrate on the New Testament.

Really no one can force you to understand, you have to look round you and decide.

I have read the bible, I find it a truly fascinating scripture that offers many avenues of thought. more than anything it is an immense and powrful piece of wriutting, but I cannot see that it is anything more than that. I personally am opposed to hoplding any form of writing as a truth no matter how brilliant, afdter all, many germans read mein kamp and came to the conclusion that hitler was right. Whilst I am not comparing the bible to hiler, I make the point thgat no scirpture should be taken as a given and it does nbot answer my question.

Do I have a use for god? the bible, as potyent as it is does not answer that.

I am an open theist Christian. I happen to feel that even If you do not accept Jesus as your savior you will not go to "hell," and you will continue as an entity. The need for God is the same as a child "needing" his or her parent. We are created beings, at least in spirit. I feel that If I worship my God I will not be alone in eternity. If one chooses to ignore God maybe their path will be a little darker, or completely dark.
I would think that no soul will be denied salvation.

What use do you have for a god?

Well, they make very nice gifts, except for the one with the lighting bolts. He keeps setting the curtains on fire. Weather gods should also be avoided unless you have indoor/outdoor carpet.

River gods can be very helpful with stubborn plumbing and the fertility gods can be great for plumbing of another sort.

The bigger omipotent ones rarely fit inside the house. Some folks like to complain to them alot, which is OK as far as it goes. Others do use them to justify all sorts of rape, murder and plundering of their neighbors, which is reason enough to stick to the smaller household variety. So hard to clean up after Armegedon, after all.

Merlin .....I make do with the one that teaches love and peace. Jesus Christ was a bringer of spiritual law and taught that if the universe and man was to survive his pride filled lifestyles and selfish ways he must become more forgiving and try to live life to help others. Well the first reason i have a use for a God is that when i die i don't want to burn in hell u know and secondly even if u don't belive in a God u could read the bible and study some of its book it has great wisdom from business(thats right business) to social life there is not a single topic that can not be solved form the bible, so i suggest even if u don't belive in God study some of its books

Or Jim Jones and the Kool aid kiddies, or the crusades (there is a cool new movie about that gotta see it after starwars III) and other assorted nuts that perverted the word of God.

The key thought here is that man will use any excuse to get his wants. Religion made them do it.....they were high on drugs....they lost thier mind in a fit of passion...

GREED is what causes the pain in the world. Just because someone or even a nation perverts the word of God should not blind you to the written word. think about it. You have a mind. You can make sense of the texts. Do not believe what false prophets have espoused as truth, when its an obvious lie. God gave you the ability to reason , use it.

If you have no use for a God, you have answered your own question. However, you are part of God, like it or not, from the viewpoint of those who are pandeists or pantheists. No problem there as well.

Clearly I have. The old testament taught the old sacrificial law. Jesus was a reformer and taught that change was needed, He taught love. the old law was for a different time and a different genetic era. Both must be studied to make sense of prophesy and the teachings of Jesus, but Jesus was the last true word, and he taught love is the only way to save yourself and the world.

You are only partly correct. I submit that even religious wars are fought over mans ignorance of gods word.

Mans ugly history and his hate for each other should (but has not) taught us something in the last 5000 years. Acually If we could just follow the teachings of Jesus we would become somthing glorious, if we contuniue to be bettleheaded morons the future is not as bright a Tall.

And Bush ?..When it comes to world events, he is one of the problems and one of the deceivers... look at the man...need I say more? case closed.

Of course it is, if we are not superior, then we are worthless, and as society has proven, we need to be superior to something, it's all about power.

I wish we could live as equals, but like I Said, people desire power, and those with power want more, so there will never be equality in this world. Why do you think communism rarely works? because it is an attept at equality, but the governments are corrupt, and refuse to truly allow any form of equality.

isn't he funny? he claims that he does not offer opinion as fact, but he still does it. he also hates to generalize and insult, but he does it so wholeheartedly, with full convictions.

oh well, who cares, if he wants to make himself look like a fool in the eyes of others, then let him. Just because he understands what he's saying and sees no alternative, doesn't mean we agree with him.
