| Bacon Sizzle Posts: 287 | The Story of Good Samaritan came to light when a certain Jewish lawyer asked Jesus saying, "What shall I do to inherit eternal life" Jesus answered, "--------, Love your neighbor as you love yourself". Then the lawyer asked, "Who is my neighbor?" The Samaritans where natives or inhabitants of Samaria, district of ancient Palestine W of the Jordan between Galilee & Judaea. It is said that the Samaritans and Jews believed in the same God, but their interpretation (religion) and practices where different. The Jews didn’t deal with these Samaritans and that they were hated and despised by the Jews. Also Jews looked upon the Samaritans no better than dogs. The Jews accused the Samaritans of catering to foreign gods The Jewish animosity to the Samaritans exists even to the present day. They even called Jesus being Jew, a Samaritan as their ultimate contempt. A traveling man was robbed of everything including the the clothes that he wore, and also he was wounded and was left half dead. A priest noticed the condition of this traveller and passed him by. Also a Levite, a member of the priestly Hebrew tribe of Levi, arrived at the place where the traveller was, and he also passed him by. Jesus a Jew, noticed, or heard of a Samaritan that helped this traveller not knowing if he was good or bad, a friend or an enemy. A Samaritian came along and saw this traveller in desperate need, and with compassion the Samaritian gave the wounded man 'first aid', and put him on his animal, brought him to an inn, and took care of him, he took out some money, and gave it to the innkeeper, and to him; "Take care of him; and whatever more you spend, when I come again, I will repay you." Jesus asked this certain lawyer, "Which one of these three that came in view of the traveller do you think is your neighbor"? This lawyer answered, "He who showed mercy on him". Then Jesus said him, "Go and do likewise" May the Spirit of Love and Truth be within you and your deeds be accordingly Peace be with you, Paul |
