Perhaps someone can hook me up with a responce to this.... but people goto confession if they do wrong against someone or themselves right? Like that is what a sin is... I think... I guess... I like to define a sin as something that you know goes agsint your morles. Now what confession is suspose to do is resolve you... but what if it's against another person... how will saying 5 hail marries make that person that you wronged feal any better? If you beet your wife... and you goto chruch and admit that you beet your wife... and get absolved for it and do it again and again... thats bad right? So what are people trying to do in confessions? Are they just saying sorry to god rather then the person who needs to hear it the most?

Isn't it Christian teaching that as long as you confess (to God that is), God forgives?

Then I am confused.... becasue that is what a lot of people who walk up to me on the street tell me is going on. All wrong doings as long as I admit that they are wrong only to god, and god is all forgiving... I am forgiven. This really isn't how it works out?

Confession without repentance is not worthy of forgiveness, even though we should forgive those that have done us harm, but this does not mean that those that have done us harm are forgiven. Forgiveness comes with repentance.

but few actually repent. a lot of people just do the sin, go to confession, and continue the sin. unless it's a one time sin, then that's okay. I just can't help the addicts.

According to the bible, you can murder a million people in cold blood but as long as you ask for forgiveness a second before you die, you'll go to heaven.

That's right. But on the other hand if you've lived a virtuous life but never prayed or believed in God, sorry baby, the pearly gates are as far as you go.

But the repentence normally is just prair correct? I mean I remeber in middle school... that like... no matter what is was some hail marrys perhaps a rosery and the stations of the cross. Though it does goto other extreams with zellous nuns beeting kids. How would you define penatance? The reason I ask is cuz it seems like a fishy term that a lot of people use... they don't really care how they act or treat other people since god forgives them in the end... and they don't seek forgivness from the people they hurt. Do you think penatence will change any time soon to include these people?

AHHH hey paul you are really bright... so then like... the guy who beats his wife may be forgiven by god by saing the hail marries but not by his wife... what happens in the bible when a person still has people who bare malace against them?

gotta love the religious belief. as long as you say sorry and really pretend to mean it, then you get off.

too bad, that's not how it works in the real world, anybody can act. why do you think so many criminals plead insanity? it's the easy way out.

Thats the thing isn't it... you really can't fool god... I mean an all powerful all knowing being knows if you truly mean it when you say you are sorry... but why say it him... you haven't really wronged him have you?
