Double Standard for Christian Terrorists?

Christian Terrorists, Abortion and Manifestos

<snip>
Double Standards in Effect
Eric Rudolph is a Christian fundamentalist. Yet the same media outlets that love to point out when a terrorist is Muslim almost universally failed to note Rudolph's extremist Christian worldview. I ran a Google News search for "Eric Rudolph" and turned up about 4,100 results. But when you add the word "Christian" to that search, and the results drop to just 81 stories.

By way of comparison, a search for "Zacarias Moussaoui" -- the so-called 20th 9/11 hijacker -- already garners about 3,870 results (his guilty plea is far more recent), but add terms like "Muslim," "Islam" and "Arab" to the search, and you find about 83 stories noting Moussaoui's religion or ethnicity. And I would venture a guess that if you asked the average American the extreme version of which religious ideology drove the 9/11 hijackers, vs. which one drove the Olympic bomber, the gap would be drastic. In fact, probably a number of people would say Rudolph was Muslim...

So you're worried because there are 83 stories compared to 81 stories?

Clinton went after the Christians after OKC, Gorgo. The government doesn't care what your beliefs are as long as you step to their goose. This argument is apple and oranges at best.

How so? That's interesting, but the article isn't about Clinton, it's about the media.

Of course, christians in this country are reveared. Durring the bombing of black churches by the KKK andother groups I am certain there were americans who secreatly liked it. I also think that people don't sperate the terrorists and their fealings. It's very hard for someone who sees an abortion clinic bombed and think hmm.. well.. they were killing people (if you are the 50% that are christians in the US) vs, the protestors who just don't like it. ::shrugs:: also single issue terrorism hasn't ever really been big news.

hmm, double standards? I think I feel another topic coming on..

but as for now, I know what you mean, look at bill oreilly (I think that's how you spell it) and every other american senator. they think it's okay to kill in Iraq for what they see as the greater good, but when the Iraquis defend home by planting suicide bombers, they call it a terrorist attack. I beg to differ, terrorism is for political or idealogical views, I don't see how political living in peace could be.

I could go on for a long time explaining a million and one reasons why America is doing the same things the germans did in the 30's, but something tells me I would be attracting a lot of anger that I cannot sheild myself from.

Hi Runa,

I was reading your last post and listening to Greenday and relaxing a bit, you know...
thinking it's half four in the morning and I should get some sleep because I'm meant to be meeting my tutor tomorrow - when suddenly that last paragraph of yours made me sit up.

I swear when I read that I felt a giddy wave of sheer happiness - not because you're right (and you are) but because it's just so good to hear someone else say it.
Thanks and you're not alone.
Maybe I can sleep now.

i think greenday is turning into EMO....

their old music used to be better..

but now they are just catering to popular demand....

now they are no better than, good charlotte, simple plan, or any other of those crappy bands...

Are they? Good. Means the Left must be very popular!

Apart from Led Zep, Greenday and Rage against the Machine - I don't listen to a lot of American bands-but I could put you onto some really unpopular British ones- if that's your taste. I highly recommened Eat Static.
