"I confess, but I can't repent"

To confess is to acknowledge (sin) to God or to a priest, and to repent is to turn from (sin) and dedicate oneself to the amendment of one's life

A person comes and confesses to you and says, "I serve the law of sin, I do the very thing I hate, I can will what is right, but I cannot do it, the evil I do not want is what I do, and I do what I do not want, it is no longer I that do it, but sin which dwells within me."

What would you think of this person and what would you say to this person?

Peace be with you, Paul

I'd think that this person was still living in the Middle Ages. What I'd say is, "Who taught you this nonsense?" "Serve the law of sin?" "Where do you get this crap?"

This person (he) that confesses, but can't repent because of the sin that dwells within him and at the same time because of the sin that dwells within him, he says, it is no longer I that do evil (sin).

To me, this person is possessed, influenced or controlled by something (as an evil spirit),

What do you think?

Peace be with you, Paul

I think he is lost if all he has is the idea of sin and possession. This is dangerous nonsense.

Gorgo,
Why must you debate if all your doing is typing to reflect your idiotic ignorance. If you have nothing to say, then don't make remarks that only you wish to hear. How is it dangerous nonsense? Maybe to you and your closed mind. Sorry if I seem harsh, but it seems that most people on this site have no desire to learn more. That is the overall purpose of debating. I'm sure, after a while everyone would get tired of just simple-minded arguing that leads to your exact starting point. So if you want to make a comment don't just say "I'd think that this person was still living in the Middle Ages". How foolish is this. I would love to know of how you postulate your idea that whatever your position is, its the right one.

Paul,
I believe that no Christian can be possessed. But I do believe certain demons can constantley tempt you in a way that seems like possession. I don't know if you ever heard of Jack Deere, but he has written a couple of books, one of which is called Suprised by the Power of the Spirit. I'm just now reading it, but I've read several like it. Anyway he speaks of a women being healed by Dr. John White. When I mean healed by John White (who received a doctorate in psychology) I mean that he used the Holy Spirit to heal her. She was suffering from a certain case that seemed to cause depression and other things in her life. Dr. White was able to rebuke the demon and it made quite an impact on the church members (300 in attendance) and Jack Deere, who was a non-charismatic theologian at the time. The women was apparentley being overshadowed by certain demons that were causing her depressionate state and long as several other illnesses. Well Deere has witnessed several cases like these and I'm only to page 50. Each case it seems like there is something so odd, yet holy about it. Its a great book and I can't wait to finish it.
My advice right now would be that the person tries to pray and fast to God and ask for such temptations to be lifted from them. If this does not work, then one must confess their sins to a church elders and have them pray for you so that you may be healed (James 5:14-16).

If you don't want the answer to a question, it's better not to ask it. He asked me what I would say, so I told him.

This person says with his mind he serves the law of God, but when it comes to the doing he serve the law of sin.

The question that comes to my mind is that how is it possible to want to do good, but do evil, and he cannot do what is right even though he want to do what is right? Also, because he does the evil that he does not want to do he says its not him that does the evil/sin, but it's the evil/sin within him.

What kind of person is he?

Peace be with you, Paul

For example: Let say this person is a priest and with his mind he serves the law of God, but when it comes to the doing, he serves the law of sin. This priest wants to do good, but he takes little boys in the back room and he has his way [up the ass] with the little boys. Now, because he did not want do this, it is not him that did this evil act, but the evil/sin that is in him.

How is it possible to serve the law of God with the mind, and at the same time serves the law of evil/sin with the body?

Peace be with you, Paul

He may be conflicted about what he wants, but he chose, so he did what he wanted. He can choose not to, and often does choose not to. All our habits are that way. When I smoked, I did not smoke in my sleep. I did not smoke in certain areas. It's a choice.

There is no reasonable evidence for the idea of sin or evil spirits.

Where are all the Christians to discuss this topic?

This priest/minster says "I know Jesus" and confesses to God that he wants to do good but he cannot stop doing evil acts. Where does this priest/minster stand according to Jesus' Words?

As Jesus has said "If I had not come and spoken to them, they would have no sin, but now they have no excuse for their sin" - (John 15:1-22)

"Many will say to Me in that day, 'Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, and cast out demons in Your name and done many wonders in Your name? And then I declared to them, 'I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!" ( lawlessness is the doing evil/sin)

Where does this priest/minster stand according to Jesus' Words?

Peace be with you, Paul
