There's no evidence to support your claim that the Bible is truth - because, what evidence is there to suggest that this is the case? It's all very well you stating for the record that the texts "are scholarly writings of historical truth" when in-fact, most Christians will agree that most of the religious "truth" consists of metaphor. The Bible even opens with Genesis to state that the Heavens and the Earth were made in 6 days - Is this a "historical truth"? Just what evidence have you got to support your claim that whatever "historical truth" you can claw out of the texts supports your idea that it is a historically accurate document? |

For example, if you have ever watched Star Trek you will be familiar with the Borgesque concept of the 'hive mind' - a group of drones all thinking the same thoughts and no-one steps out of line... and when the whole congregation starts praying together it sounds *earily* similar to the Borg too! Psychologically speaking, there are profound effects on people from rhythmic chanting, especially as part of a large group. Also, I have always felt there is a huge demand for compliance in church. That is, you have to sing, you have to pray. No-one there feels forced into doing it or anything, and everyone who does sing and pray does so, of course, because they want to... but just try not doing it, try not joining in, and then just feel the pressure pile onto you like you're in a shaken up bottle of fizzy drink! Just my observations. Probably just me being a little weird! ![]() "Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the former." - Albert Einstein | ||
