| Human Posts: 679 | While we've advanced a lot since the constitution, I don't see much advancement in the past 50 years with the single exception of civil rights. It seems to me most Americans are pretty apathetic these days. We're generally willing to let people be free to determine their own path, but not to actively help others, especially people we don't personally know. We are not really worse than before, but we're not all that better either |

I suspect that genetics and other factors play a certain role as well. In the future they might bail us out, but I doubt it. And I do include myself on that list, well Im not fat. We all could do more to help our fellows. mb |

"Millions of innocent men, women, and children, since the introduction of Christianity, have been burned, tortured, fined, and imprisoned, yet we have not advanced one inch toward uniformity." ~ Thomas Jefferson The trick to being a truly moral individual is remembering the capabilities and fallability of human beings. It will not be found in fundamentalist viewpoints like Christianity, because the beliefs acquired from such views require no proof and no thought; they are presented and accepted. If you believe in human beings then you can understand what we do and why we do it, rather than looking to a perfect being who will never bother to show you he exists (because he doesn't and therefore he can't) you ought to look to each other. Use your intellect. I don't think morality has declined, but I do think that people are frightened to death by differences because those differences have not been allowed to publicly exist until now.
