no more than your lack of faith is emotionally based...

Moved to new thread...
Without any prompting from Cruella I might add. :)

Religion is poison because it asks us to give up our most precious faculty, which is that of reason, and to believe things without evidence. It then asks us to respect this, which it calls faith. - Christopher Hitchens

You thought wrong. There is not a single primary source - i.e. written by a person who met Jesus in the flesh or by Jesus himself - which documents the life of Jesus. Not one. The existance of Jesus is based on the assumption that the secondary sources (documents written decades after the death of Jesus by people who didn't ever actually clap eyes on the man, and who were chronicling the myths of their death cult) must have had at least some material basis. It is actually an assumption that I suspect may hold some truth, but it is an assumption actual evidence none-the-less.
The earliest gospel, typically known as 'Mark' because of the baseless assumption that it was penned by Mark the Evangelist, was penned around 70 C.E. at the earliest. We know this because the work contains references to events which occured by this date. Specifically the author explicity alludes to the Roman invasion and fall of the temple, which occured around 70 C.E.Quote by: QB
The subsequent gospels were penned still after this date, we know this because both Matthew and John directly plaigarise Mark. Matthew was, in all probability, penned around 80-85 C.E, and John 90-100 C.E.
Society may be formed so as to exist without crime, without poverty, […] no obstacle whatsoever intervenes at this moment except ignorance to prevent such a state of society.

I can think of several words or phrases that would be more accurate in place of the word "know" in this sentence:
-think
-believe
-hope
-wish
-have faith that
I need proof of anything and everything that isn't simply self-evident. If my parents had never told me about God, I never would have concluded that there was a God on my own. I had to be told about God, and because I had to be told, I must also be told why God exists. If nobody can tell me why, then I have no further use for the claim. I apply the same logic to your God that you apply to every single religion or superstitious belief you don't believe in.
A vague, ethereal feeling doth not proof make.
No, you just said that your faith is based on a feeling, so it is emotionally based. There's no such thing as "no more" than - it quite succinctly is. As far as my lack of faith (and I would suspect my fellow forumers' lack of faith too, although I haven't actually asked them), it isn't emotionally based. I lack faith because I have not seen it provide a single useful thing to mankind. I haven't chosen not to have faith; I was born without it. My parents tried to convince me to believe, and for a while I thought I did. But as I grew older, I learned more about the world and concluded my instinct was right after all. It had nothing to do with emotions, and everything to do with being critical, skeptical, reasonable, rational, and observing the world carefully.

yet as I have said on the other thread many believers exist. now if you want to think thats because they are all weak minded fools, thats your choice...

I never made that characterization. Is that how you think of yourself?
Of course, the world is full of believers. The emotional need for a spiritual security blanket is universal to all humans. We are all finite creatures faced by a vast universe. Nevertheless, there is no proof, or even compelling evidence, of the existence of god or gods, beyond our fears and longing.

lol...you say one thing then say another, which is fun, faith is not a security blanket, only people who have no faith or no idea about faith would consider that..
