Regardless of the will to know, ignorance IS bliss.
So you assert. But nothing yet to convince me of that.

And how can you be ignorant out of fear? Fear implies the realization of SOMETHING even if it not a solid possibility.
You have to know of the existence of something to fear it.
oh thats easy. Lots of times I've feared situations with unknown content. Humans do fear the unknown, its one of our major fears. Once I'd been thru the situ once, and knew how it played out, that level of fear wasnt there next time. Go thru it several times so you know it well, no fear at all.

I've found out over and over and over again that ignorance is not bliss. Ignorance of facts keeps us doing things we would not do if we knew better, thus stops us doing our best.
But you wouldn't KNOW you were not doing your best. Your BEST is just a subjective term and depends on different factors.[quote]
correct. So I'd stumble along doing badly, failing, screwing up, being miserable, and not know what the better way is.

Actually no, its possible, and common, to know there are better ways but not know what they are. Ignorance does not imply also ignorance of the fact that one is ignorant.

Much of the worlds problems are caused by ignorance. If we suddenly had a magical serious knowledge plug in, the majority of the screw ups and failures we have to tolerate today would disappear. The majority of our problem events would truly be over.

Only to be replaced by more. Fact is, we need problems. Problems make the world go round.

What kind of world would it be if the whole Iraq and war on terror crap just suddenly disappeared? A boring one. People need to turn on the news in the morning and know there is something major happening with the world.

Admitedly they don't want it to be bad necessarily, but if it's always good news then it's just plain boring. That's why newspapers sell better when there is something really bad happening. No-one ever watched the news so much as the days of and after 9/11.

Ignorance, and the consequences of it--though the likes of you and I must continue to despise it--is part of what makes the world go round.

Speak for yourself. Boring can be good. Rides in the country. Days on the beach. BBQs, sporting events. Boring can be very good.

I think one would look at this topic in a different way.

Is being a child bliss?

Being innocent of the knowledge of good and evil - would that not be more comfortable?

Kids in their bliss do not have to worry about jobs, time schedules, bill collectors, obligations, and even responsiblity is still somewhat of a unlearned concept.

Life is thus, a playground, a place to find fun things to do, to act out fantasy (for the kids). Even if a tragic event happened a simple huggy bear could return them to the bliss of not knowing or caring to know about the bad side of our adult reality.

Becoming as a child again, is to know the bliss.

The difference between bliss and mesery is simply the evolution from childhood into adulthood.

But sometimes if you get old enough you can experience the 2nd childhood, and are converted back to that original state of mind.

That's just senility, a condition I'm eagerly awaiting! :)

Not a day goes by that I don't see something that reinforces my belief that people are idiots.

why? The best invetion of all would be the one that makes life go to plan, make things work out instead of screw up so often.

No, we dont. No, they dont! Theyre a constant thorn in the side producing a vast stream of failures. Who wants or needs that!

Man I'd far rather my life go well than go wrong! Far rather be interersted in the latest success than some bs on tv.

Request for evidence for this assertion please. Common sense tells me the exact opposite.

Firstly the difference with childhood is not just about ignorance. In fact that is the lesser difference between childhood and adulthood.

no, they have to worry about daily abuse, aka bullying, ongoing battles with teachers, boring days in school day after day, the desperate need for social approval, and various other things we just dont consider relevant.

your childhood sounds very different to mine. Very.

being childlike in your adult years certainly does lead to misery, that much I'll grant you :)

Nobody likes that, though really its not particularly childlike.
