You were a Catholic all your life? So.. you were a Catholic back when you thought Barney the talking dinosaur was cool stuff? Surely you see how you were indoctrinated. Just because you change sects doesn't mean you weren't brainwashed from birth to accept Christianity.

A man said to the universe:
    "Sir, I exist!"
    "However," replied the universe,
"The fact has not created in me
    A sense of obligation."

Bet you didn't. You may think you decided; but did you consciously reject, say, Shintoism before you went off to indoctrination--excuse me, church? Do you even know what Shintoism is? Seems to me you joined the religion that was most prominent in Scottish society: Christianity.
Most people I know are atheist or agnostic. I guess I just mix with the wrong crowd.

Now now, no cursing Mr. Pious. Who cares what sect of Christianity you've been enthralled by? Religion is all the same.

Between what? Atheists and agnostics? I would say there is. Agnostics that I know are too lazy to check into religion and come to a conclusion. The name its self alludes to this fact.

Au contraire. Again, agnostic is not some "middle position" between atheism and theism. Agnosticism is an entirely different thing.

Theism - Belief in a god.
Atheism - Lack of belief in a god.
Agnosticism - The position that it's not possible to know for certain whether or not a god exists.

Most atheists are agnostic, and some theists are agnostic too. A person who labels themselves solely as "agnostic" without applying either of the other two monikers might indeed fit your description, but simply being agnostic does not mean one hasn't looked into religion and come to a conclusion.

To honestly call yourself agnostic, you would have to know something about religion in the first place, as nobody has any preconceived notion of "what god is" in order to be able to make a statement such as "it is impossible to know if god exists or not" in the first place.

    The word gnostic means knowledge.

    From Oxford English dictionary.

Gnostic: relating to knowledge, especially esoteric mystical knowledge…

The word Agnostic means without knowledge.

Agnostic: a person who believes that nothing is known or can be known of the existence or nature of God

The word comes from the mid 19th century: from a- ‘not’ + gnostic. So therefore not knowledgeable in the ways of a god.

I actually thought the word gnostic came from the greek word "gnosis" meaning knowledge. Ma bad :)
