| Igneous Magma Posts: 649 | Obviously this is ony for believers.. but I am curious... Some feminists have made a point of referring to God in the feminine. Traditionalists in the masculine. Is this just a matter of convienient pronouns of choice? If it really is an argument of God's gender I HAVE to know.... If your belief is monotheistic why would God have a sex? Even the story of His "only begotten son" refers to His "begetting" as immaculate and not actually going through the act of sex. So if you believe God has a sex (gender)... why? Or with whom? Protester against the culture war!!!! |

However , He is the pursuer, the lover, the woo-er of souls, so in that role He may be said to have a male persona. This is an obvious anthropomorphism of a being that is utterly unlike a human in countless other ways. "Arms in the hands of the citizens may be used at individual discretion for the defense of the country, the overthrow of tyranny or private self-defense." -- John Adams |

Well, I live in a culture where typically little boys play with legos and little girls play with dolls. I think "Ultimate Source of Creation" would then be a masculine quality. |

Im not sure what you are asking, are you asking why there must be a right and wrong? Logic and knowledge are not enough Each of us at some time in our life turns to a father, a brother, a God and asks Why am I here? What was I meant to be? Is this all that I am is there nothing more? | |

Pulled out and pulled in (whatever?). As the earth moves in and moves out with it's egg shaped orbit we see how this causes the seasons of they year, thusly causing the birthing of spingtime and the hibernaitons of winter. In other words, planet earth is having sex with the sun for the purposes of reproductions happening relative to the seasons of the year. The goddess Mother Earth is female, and the god Sun (AKA "Ra") is male, seeding earth with it's light. And as the universe expands out and then moves in again we are observing the universe's orbital orgies. A real big banger happening folks. So those are the facts about the birds and the bees, hope I have answered all your questions about the gendering topic and creaton. Technosoul. |

| Volcanic Erupter Posts: 8,663 | Please read also the message I posted above which frames my personal theory about planetary sex. I think what you are asking why the Bible is suggesting that God is male, and why Jesus called Him the Hevenly Father the answer would be as follows. In the Jewish culture the family was ruled over by the father who was the head of the household. Pop would have the top word in the family, and mom would then make sure the kids followed the rules of their father during the times when he was off at work, war, or whatever. It was a kind of ranking system of hand-down instructions. A "father knows best" arrangement. And so in calling God "him" they were simply suggesting that God is the top ruler, the head of the household (creation). The church would be "mom" telling the "children" the rules she is passing down form God the "father". Thusly the church is called the "bride". That anology was used so that people could understand the "order or ranking system" they wanted to impress us with. "wait till your father gets home" is the warning to the kids who do not behave their mother (as pop will back her up with his panking paddle). So the useage of male terms has nothing to do with reproduction but with who is in charge of things relative to community laws and order. Technosoul. |

| Molten Ash Location: Michigan Posts: 103 | Society determines what gender is god. Maternal socities think of god as the female bringer of life, and paternal societies view god as a male. It just so happened that the early Hebrews were in the process of changing from a maternal god to a paternal god. Some remains of the matrical nature of the Hebrews can be seen in the reference to "temple prostitute"in the old testement, book of David I think? LDS I use Anselm of Canterberry definition the God as a "being that which none greater can be conceived". There fore a God with no comparison. |

| Grilled cheese Location: Texas (moved from Massachusetts) Posts: 82 | It's interesting that feminists question the tradition of seeing and referring to God as male, but I see no questions at all, no objections whatsoever to the equally pervasive suggestion that Satan is male. Come to think of it, it would make some sense for Lucifer to actually be Lucy. It would explain a lot. We are talking here about the being that really had it made -- the most beautiful of all the angels, second only to God in heaven. What in the world -- in any world -- could better explain throwing all that away than a severe case of PMS? The Lone Liberal |

| Volcanic Erupter Posts: 8,663 | Gee, if the devil was the most beautiful person in heaven next to god, and if he looks like a red goat with horns and a pointed tail, I am not so sure I would want to live there with all them scary looking angels. technosoul, |
