Jesus does advocate the old testament

I read a post where Captain Chaos submitted a verse from Galatians which seems to indicate Jesus wants to throw the law of the old testament away. This to me seems ridiculous.

“For truly, I say to you, till heaven and earth pass away, not an iota, not a dot, will pass the law until all is accomplished. Whoever then relaxes one of the least of these commandments and teaches men so, shall be called least in the kingdom of heaven; but he who does them and teaches them shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.” (Matthew 5:18-19 RSV)

"It is easier for Heaven and Earth to pass away than for the smallest part of the letter of the law to become invalid." (Luke 16:17 NAB)

"Do not think that I have come to abolish the law or the prophets. I have come not to abolish but to fulfill. Amen, I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not the smallest part or the smallest part of a letter will pass from the law, until all things have taken place." (Matthew 5:17 NAB)

So, there's two ways this can end. Either I am wrong, and someone shows me a passage where Jesus says "forget all that", therefore demonstrating once again the many contradictions of the bible. Another way is that I am right, and christians can stop saying how the OT has to be ignored.

Good. Now that we have that established I call upon all holy crusaders to aid me in the terrorist insurrection against the great evils of our society, such as uppity women and Long John Silver's. It is a slippery slope; if we allow people to eat clams soon they will want shrimp and in no time we'll be a nation of decadent hedonistic sushi lovers gorging ourselves on chunks of raw sea urchin, and then much like the Roman's love of weird food caused their society to implode so shall ours.

Seriously, I doubt anybody is going to start listening to inconvenient parts of the old testament just because that's the logical thing to do.

I think it goes without saying the any suggestion to invade Canada is mind-numbingly stupid.

Of course, the New Testament itself is hardly the best tome on social equality.

Well

"Of course, the New Testament itself is hardly the best tome on social equality."

Grandpa isn't debating my point but do you have to debate my point to post? I mean I like to hear that some people agree with this idea just as much as I like to hear someone try to make a point against it.

So we're looking at varying degrees of bessedness in the Kingdom of Heaven depending on the accurate adherance to the dietary laws... right? How is it, then, that a person that has no interest in even being in that kingdom, can feel justified in pointing at my apparent lax observance? I don't go trying to tell members of the United Auto Workers Union how they should be observing their charter, do I? Why? Because I'm not in the union... Der. If I was, then I'd have a valid voice in the procedings, but otherwise, I'll just shut-up, thank you. It's astonishing to me that so many non-Christians feel so overwhelmingly obliged to point out any and every inconsistancy in doctrine, when they don't even have any vested interest. It's truly childish.

Agreed. Christians try to impose selected old testament values and then wonder why people care? Hello? Just the wrongness alone bothers me; whenever I hear something that I know is wrong it makes me grimace. Does truth have no value? If it holds no value why are you on a debate forum?

Yeah "Jesus" supposedly said those things.

But let us not forget....that Jesus made a habit of working on the Sabbath. He healed on the Sabbath. Which was GOOD because he was doing what was RIGHT. BUT he was still working on the Sabbath which broke his Dad's law of not working on the Sabbath.

There were things you couldn't eat as a Jew.....it was unclean. Through Jesus all things in moderation.

Also....if one truly reads the Bible....Jesus DOESN'T fulfill the prophecy. Jesus "supposedly" will come back someday and finish the job. But if you READ the Old Testament.....when the messiah comes ALL the things that the Messiah was supposed to do where going to happen when the messiah came not some thousands of years later.

If the laws didn't change with Jesus.....I just don't know what did.

Furthermore....if Jsus didn't change the laws.........have you stoned a whore today? because if not....you should have. If your brother dies.....and you aren't married.....would you marry his wife and give her a son to honor your brother? IF not....god is going to kill you like he did Onan. IF that doesn't happen anymore.....why? FI the law is the law.....what changed? IF nothing then you are all going to hell because you don't follow the law. If things did change....then according to Jesus he's a false prophet.

Christians don't know God anymore than you or I do.
