Quick question...

"This statement is false"

Do you believe that? If so, would it not make it true? If so, would the fact that it was true then make it false? If so, would it not make it true?

I am bored and language is screwy.

Ah, a paradox. Here's another:
If you try to fail, and succeed, which have you done?

And one more:

There is an isolated town in which the sole barber, a man by the way, shaves all the townsmen, and only those townsmen, who do not shave themselves. Does the barber shave himself?

If he does, he doesn't, if he doesn't he does.

and not to mention the time paradox.

I call them conundrums, mostly because I don't get many chances to use the word conundrum, and it's a cool word. I like them as much as I like Escher drawings and for the same reasons.

It's good to play with your mind. It's made of muscle, exercise it.

The following sentence is true. The previous sentence is false.

Have you ever read "Godel, Escher, Bach: An Eternal Golden Braid" by Douglas R. Hofstadter? I am reading it right now and it has a lot of good paradox discussion and debate about human minds versus machines and general philosophical yumminess.

I've read it three times and each time understood more than the last. Follow that one with Metamagical Themas and watch your brain explode. They're both books that require multiple readings unless that's your field and are familiar with the concepts he presents (which I'm not).

Not my field but I do enjoy reading that kind of stuff. I will check out Metamagical Themas.

Just finished David Bohm's Wholeness and the Implicate Order...also very mind blowing. I enjoy a lot of Fred Alan Wolf's stuff, too.

This one probably isn't as good, but I'll put it up anyway.

Which statement(s) is(are) true?

1. At least 10 of these statements are false.
2. At least 9 of these statements are false.
3. At least 8 of these statements are false.
4. At least 7 of these statements are false.
5. At least 6 of these statements are false.
6. At least 5 of these statements are false.
7. At least 4 of these statements are false.
8. At least 3 of these statements are false.
9. At least 2 of these statements are false.
10. At least 1 of these statements are false.

The "at least" is what screws it up...otherwise only number 2 could be true. Right?

Edit: Actually all of them could be true but number 1.

Edit again: Nope, only number 10 can be true? ...its screwy.
