Favorite Bible Passages, Prayers or Psalms

I just though with all the rediculous negativity in this forum perhaps some people who believe in God and aren't ashamed or afraid to, would like to share their favorite passage, prayer, or Psalm, and perhaps explain why. I will start with mine, which is self explainatory and I actually came across this one by accident while holding the bible crying and asking why I was in such a hard time.

God CAN be seen:

God CANNOT be seen:

Psalms 137 : 9

Happy are those who seize your children and smash them against a rock.

. . . not to have reality intrude on the situation, but this smacks of silliness. Nothing really bad can happen. The only thing to be scared of is that someone might break the rules and call you a name. And I would be surprised to see Christians who feel ashamed of believing in god. It seems to me as though you are trying to make yourself appear weaker and more oppressed than you actually are.

ironeagle, are you going to comment on these post? It appears to me, people are showing you why they do not accept the bible as a book of God. If you want agreement with them, then you need to acknowledge their objections, and give reason for believing the bible is a good book.

Thomas Jefferson's favorite part of the bible was Jesus's Surmon on the Mount, I believe. He edited out all the things in the New Testament that didn't agree with science, and today we can buy his edited version of the New Testament. Jefferson and others of time highly valued the bible for its morals, and some of these are important to our liberty, so maybe we want to accept some of the bible?

I own Thomas Jefferson's bible, it's actually available online as well-- The Life and Morals of Jesus of Nazareth: Extracted Textually from the Gospels Greek, Latin, French, and English It's a good treatment of the New Testament in my opinion.

I like the book of Ecclesiastes, there is a lot of wisdom in that book.

I'm sorry if thats what it seemed that I was doing. The OP asked the readers what their favorite Bible verses were. If this were a debate about whether the book were in fact a divinely inspired work, than I wouldn't have quoted Psalms 137 at all. The ninth verse of that chapter is honestly the first thing that comes to my mind when someone asks me to quote the Bible.

I wasn't trying to make the Bible look like it was endorsing something immoral. I think there are certainly situations in which a good child's-head-into-a-rock-dashing could be called for.

And I would be remiss if I didn't say that I do understand that the author of the psalm (God if you prefer) was not endorsing the smashing of random children's heads into rocks. The writer of the poem was simply enraptured with anger at a man who had wronged him.

Can't speak for Eagle but I don't see a point in responding to some posts. Some people just plain dislike religion and want it to go away, so any chance they get it's another attempt to mock or find fault.

It's like asking people to tell about beautiful sights to see in NYC. A person who hates NYC is going to describe sights such a homeless bums, pollution, overbearing police, or standstill traffic. Some people just always seek out the negative and only wand a focus on the negative aspects of what they hate.

It's like this Helio. I visited Boston recently. I saw the beauty and I saw the homeless. Boston isnt for me. Maybe others like it? (they must..they live there) I like the country life. I'm not going to pretend I didn't see what I saw. In fact..I documented it. (pics are on my profile page) Doesn't mean I hate the place..just mean's it's not my cut of tea.

You know how it is in the world of the insane. Everything makes perfect sense if you completely ignore the "bad" things.

It's like a person that loves their father, but they've blacked out the memories of how they were molested for many years. They just simply ignore the truth.

IDK what it is RC. But I will tell you what bothers the crap out of me about some religious folks. They are totally cool with me ..think I'm great...one of them..UNTIL I tell them I'm an atheist. Then I become a freak of nature. I'm no freak. I just see life in a different light. I seriously don't get it.
