Not required

there is no sign that anywhere anyone have words that would mean the "not required" senses

opened - closed

high - low

required - ?

duty - ?

needed - ?

obligatory - ?

unneeded, unnecessary, noncompulsory, nonessential...etc... need more?

Nonhigh isn't a word. Unnescessary is a word.

Senses...what do you mean by senses?

I think it goes without saying the any suggestion to invade Canada is mind-numbingly stupid.

negatives aren't the same as words like opened - closed, high - low

you can say " close it ! "

would you say " unopen it ! " in the same way ?

you can think " low "

would you think " nonhigh " in the same way ?

yes. just because a word hasn't got the non, or un, or dis, doesn't make it any less negtive or oppsoite to the original word. closed = unopened. but unopen isn't a word, because the guy who invented the words dindt like the sound of it.

No it's not.

You know why? Because were it actually a word it would have the exact same meaning as the word "close". There is no need to create a new word to substitute for the word "close" as it perfectly expresses the action.

Which is why this entire thread is irrelevant.

Oh man, what a wasted opportunity to say "Which is why this entire thread is 'not required'."

And who can aspire to anything higher than to be a smartass? There are no people worthier than that holy bunch.

People who look down upon smartasses only do so because they do not have the sarcastic wit to be one themselves.

I think we the meaning we were discussing was more along the lines of "to close" rather than "closed". A verb, not an adjective.

... I suppose either one works. Closed and unopen the adjective are synonymous, but close and unopen the verb are also synonymous.

But again, none of this matters as there's no need to have to words to describe the same thing when one serves the purpose perfectly already.

Thats the trouble with the english language it can use many words to describe the same thing.

argument
altercation, bicker, clash, contention, controversy, debate, difficulty, disagreement, dispute, fight, polemic, quarrel, run-in, spat, squabble, tiff, wrangle

No wonder la mangra has such difficulty communicating.
