| Sedimentary Rock Posts: 4 | the basic postulates of analytical psychology I am researching Jung, and I read an essay called the basic postulates of analytical psychology in it, he said: The fact that a metaphysics of the mind was supplanted in the nineteenth century by a metaphysics of matter, is a mere trick if we consider it as a question for the intellect does this mean its a trick of the intellect on the part of materialist who use materialistic rationale to justify their world view, and not take into account the spiritual? |

| Sedimentary Rock Posts: 4 | I'm not sure that definition fits. Maybe to put it in more perspective I'll add more to it: The fact that a physics of the mind was supplanted in the nineteenth century by a physics of matter, is a mere trick if we consider it as a question for the intellect; yet regarded from the standpoint of psychology, it is an unexampled revolution in man's outlook upon the world. Other-worldliness is converted into matter-of-factness; empirical boundaries are set to man's discussion of every problem, to his choice of purposes, and even to what he calls “meaning”. Intangible, inner happenings seem to have to yield place to things in the external, tangible world, and no value exists if it is not founded on a so-called fact. At least, this is how it appears to the simple mind. The Basic Postulates of Analytical Psychology Chapter IX of Modern Man in Search of a Soul Carl Jung (1933) - Athenaeum Library of Philosophy It sounds like he was discounting a metaphysics based on matter alone. I was just wondering if anyone reaches this same conclusion. |

Therefore they are choosing to not believe in most of what exists. Atleast every year they get to believe in alittle more as science gets around to measuring, discovering, etc. |
