![]() Hot Lava Location: Iowa Posts: 947 | Advantage Seeking On Advantage-Seeking Every being of any type attempts to determine what is in its advantage, aims for, then works toward acquiring that advantage. Since what is to one's advantage is difficult to comprehend and there are no guarantees one's aim and capabilities will be, respectively, accurate and powerful enough to obtain the apparent advantage, advantage-seeking is a very fallible activity. All any being can do is, with reference to what is perceptible to them and under the influence of nonconscious forces, guess what is to their advantage on basis of all the available information, aim for that conjectured advantage, work toward obtaining it, and then respond to whatever outcome (success, failure, or something in between) is produced through these efforts with a repeat of the same process, over and over again, until they fade out of existence. What is to one's advantage? The advantage of any being depends on the content of their character, which can be determined by an analysis of the constitution of their nature and how this is expressed in different enviroments. Since character content is comprehensive and difficult to decipher, and because situations are large in number and diverse in composition, it hard for a being to know just what is to their advantage, although sound reasoning on basis of the available and most trustworthy information is an effective aid to the decision-making process. A moral being is an entity for whom the disadvantage of others is an issue. – K.H.Y. |
