| Liberated thinker Location: New Mexican Alps Posts: 1,931 | So what? Religions thrive on sins and penitence don't they? What does Islam say about non believers? What are the penalties for violating the tenents of the Koran? Why are there religious police roaming the streets of some Islamic countries to insure dress and morality codes are enforced? Why are adherents threatened with damnation and descent into hell in many Christian sects? Which religious sect worries the most about ascent into heaven or descent into hell? Aren't they all about the same? Thus we play the fools with the time, and the spirits of the wise sit in the clouds and mock us. |

| Noodlely Messenger Location: I dunno Posts: 82 | It could certainly be much fun watching theistic southern politicians of these United States scurrying over who will be the first state to follow these guidelines. (Of course they wouldn't admit it, this is a secular nation after all )Does the pope think that, by saying altering genes is immoral, scientists will actually stop? Or is he dipping his hands into politics and trying to influence some laws? And isn't it the American dream to become obscenely wealthy? It sure is my goal. "I'll see ya in hell, Rockefeller (was he a philanthropist?), Carnage (was he a philanthropist too?), Morgan (did he save America?), and the lesser Gates (yes yes, I believe he's given away billions as well)" If anything, I think obscenely wealthy people can and do give away more money than a great majority of Christians combined. Or am I mistaken? Not all Muslims are terrorists, but all terrorists are Muslim I pray that one day man will shed the shackles of religion RAmen |

![]() Sedimentary Rock Posts: 12 | I don't think he should've changed the original sins, they pretty much covered everything. I also find the "new" sins to be rather repetitive. Not only that, but not all seven of the original sins were addressed. Things like excessive wealth are fine, just don't be a jerk about it. n_n |

| 13.7B Light Years+ Location: 42 N, 83 W Posts: 939 | My personal opinion is that the Church doesn't want us to delve into genetics because ultimately it will allow us to create better humans (through gene manipulation) than god has created. Obviously I can't support this claim, but it would seem to make sense. They "say" its because we're messing with embryos (thus, human life), but this is just an argument of what is defined as human or when is human life, really human, which is probably a discussion for another thread. I worry because the Chruch is so darn wealthy, and they own so much real estate here in the USA. And if all that wealth belongs to God or Jesus I do not want them to end up in hell. or their church for that matter. |

It reminds me of that guy in New York who publically advoated (and worked to) close down positution and at the same time was buying positutes at 1000 bucks a pop for his own pleasure. Goes to show that morality is for everyone else and not the elected. Woe unto the elected few, just to be fair, the Mormons are wealthy, and other religious top guns. But at least a poor fellow like me can get through the eye of the needle and so... hey... I got good morals! Being a hypocrit is a good occupation. But sooner or later we find out that those who blame are guilty of the same. And what about the deadly sin of using drugs being sold by all those anti-christ doctors. What will happen to all the sick people when they repent from their deadly sins? At least they can drink wine and get stoned out of their minds, or is wine a drug? Is religion a drug? Yep, this really worries me to no end. And what about that plastic image of Mary I have on the dashboard of my car? Will I get into trouble if the plastic is harmful to the environment? My plasic credit card, my plastic phone, I got a lot of plastic to repent of. Plus we have a law that the store cannot charge us a deposit on plastic milk bottles and so now the recycling center will not take them, that is bad for nature and landfills. Everyone is doomed. It is a deadly sin to cause poverty, holy cow, everyone who voted for Bush has a deadly sin, Bin Laden was right. I am really getting worried now. I better say some hail maryies with my plastic beads. | |

| blasphemer Location: Michigan Posts: 7,244 | Oh, so now they tell us! Anyway, I think the Vatican just has a bug up its collective butt. Rather than saying, "Hey! This is bad!" they'll say, "Hey! This is bad and you're gonna' burn in hell!" Obviously, the Vatican God is incompatible with liberty and freedom, at least in how it tries to break people down and built them up with guilt and shame. It also denies the true sources of the problems in our time. A failure to recycle is not caused by Satan or demons, but by the inability or lack of desire to do it. This doesn't mean people can or should do whatever they please, but that they should simply see things as they are. Grandpa h. The paragon of animals! And yet, to me, what is this quintessence of dust? Man delights not me; no, nor woman neither.. |

![]() Molten Ash Posts: 101 | All the pope did with those 7 new deadly sins was lose the respect of everyone who wasn't catholic and probably piss off half of the catholic believers. So now everytime we get in our car were sinning, thats just genius. Just to spite the pope right now I am getting in my diesel pick up and driving the cloning lab to spend 10 million of my dollars on a gentically modified clone of my dog and them I'm going to do my science fair experiment on 1st graders. Actully how would we do our science fair experiments that involve people now that there sins. |

In another thread, I was mentioning how it is irratating to be bombarded by the "green movment" message, and it's just getting started. TV shows are portraying everyone who doesn't recycle as criminals. Add sinners on top of it. Everyone is a criminal, and a sinner if you don't recycle... ugh I'm already tired of it.I'd like to thank Charlie Hodge, bringing me scarves and water. |

| Volcanic Erupter Posts: 8,665 | Although this is a taget for poking fun at, I cannot help but agree that many of those objectives are worth pursuing. We should recycle, not create poverty, recycle wealth back into the mainstream, etc. But trying to scare people with notions about deadly sins is uncalled for. |

| Igneous Magma Posts: 298 | Maybe in some weird way the Vatican was trying to lend legitmacy to the idea of environmental awareness? Or maybe they're just plotting their next major marketing campaign, I dunno. I'm not on the committee who came up with this latest idea, so although I have pretty much no respect for the Vatican as a whole, I am willing to suspend my usual automatic "*^*%^*&^*(^#$!!!!" reaction and wait and see if this does any good. (I don't know how many Catholics really pay attention to the Vatican in *practice*, at least in America, though...) |
