Attack of the Humans!

I remember when enrolled in Biology in university an experiment whereby we put a small patch of bacteria into a petri dish full of a substance (food for the bacteria, I can't remember what it was called) and left the bacteria to do it's thing.

What was interesting was that the bacteria which was surrounded by an environment of what must have seemed like a never ending supply of food... not only did well, and began to multiply freely, but they did so well and got so greedy the entire population ate up the entire petri dish of food and spilled over and out of the petri dish, ultimately starving themselves to the point where the bacteria died.

Does anyone else think that human beings, regardless of our supposed superior "intelligence" are headed for the same fate??

For you can take a man out of nature, but you can't take nature of a man.

Any living creature will eat up all the resources. Rabbits, deer, rats... because they can't farm. It's one of the main arguments for hunting and extermination they'd starve anyway, so lets eat em.

I heard 25,000 people a day die of starvation. Humans have run themselves out of resources before. Easter Island was it? The Romans did a pretty good job chopping down everything in sight for war/housing materials. However, I don't think stripping resources would happen in modern times. What would be more likely, is sudden disasters that wipe out whole crops. Or diseases that kill off all the dogs, and allow primates to be domesticated for simple household chores.

I was watching a movie from the 80's where they mentioned that "10,000 people a day are starving". I couldn't find this thread a few weeks ago, and now I've forgotten what movie it was. But it's hard to fathom that the number of starving people has more than doubled in the past 20yrs.

On this planet, each ego-driven individual strives for their own advantage when it comes to the distribution of natural resources. On their own, people contribute to the decay of the Earth only in small part, but collectively, this chaotic struggle for dominance becomes a 'great dragon' which threatens to burn and consume all species and societies until only a charred orb remains, floating lonesomely through the vaccum of space.

Advancements in technology over the years have brought us to the point where starvation is not an issue. We can create the required substances for us to survive artificially negating the need for natural grown agriculture and produce. The real concern is not whether we will drive ourselves to starvation as a species, but whether we will exhaust the natural supply of food and water destroying the natural balance of the planet.

Really? When did this happen? Aren't there plenty who lack access to food (or food products)?

Studies on in vitro meat

Wikipedia defines in vitro meat. For other examples of in vitro food you can use Google

Not having access to food does not mean the ability to create the required food substances do not exist.

I make no claims to the level of my own intelligence, please be as critical as necessary and correct any mistakes I make as I am here for two reasons: 1.)To learn. 2.)Fun.
